2021 Used F1 Power Unit Elements
On this page you can see how many power unit elements each driver has in his car during the 2021 Formula 1 season.
The amount of used F1 power unit elements that are allowed to each car during the season is limited. During the 2021 season teams are allowed to use 3 ICE, 3 TC, 3 MGU-H, 3 MGU-K, 2 ES and 2 CE units per car without penalty. When the use exceeds these amount of power unit elements the driver of that car will receive grid penalties in the following race.
The used power unit elements in the sheet below are the up to date number of current elements used on each car before 2021 Saudi Arabian GP qualifying.

TC = Turbo Charger (max. 3 without penalty)
MGU-H = Motor Generator Unit Heat (max. 3 without penalty)
MGU-K = Motor Generator Unit Kinetic (max. 3 without penalty)
ES = Energy Store (max. 2 without penalty)
CE = Control Electronics (max. 2 without penalty)
EX = Engine EXhaust system (max. 8 without penalty)
Drivers who received power unit penalties
- 5 Sep. - Because Sergio Perez car is the first to use more than 4 ICE's, he will be the first to receive a 10 places grid penalty.
- 10 Sep. - Valtteri Bottas is the second driver who gets a fourth engine. Mercedes has fitted a new unit before qualifying of the Italian sprint race.
- 12 Sep. - Pierre Gasly's car gets fitted with a fourth power unit.
- 24 Sep. - Charles Leclerc's car gets fitted with a fourth power unit.
- 24 Sep. - Max Verstappen's car gets fitted with a fourth power unit.
- 25 Sep. - Nicholas Latifi's car gets fitted with a fourth power unit.
- 26 Sep. - Valtteri Bottas' car gets fitted with a fifth power unit.
- 8 Oct. - Lewis Hamilton will use a 4th ICE and gets a 10 places grid penalty.
- 8 Oct. - Carlos Sainz 4th power unit, has to start from the back.
- 10 Oct - Daniel Ricciardo 4th power unit, has to start from the back.
- 22 Oct - Valtteri Bottas 6th ICE, get 10 places grid penalty.
- 22 Oct - George Russell 4th power unit, has to start from the back.
- 22 Oct - Sebastian Vettel 4th power unit, has to start from the back.
- 23 Oct - Fernando Alonso 4th power unit, has to start from the back.
- 5 Nov - Yuki Tsunoda 4th power unit, has to start from the back.
- 5 Nov - Lance Stroll 4th power unit, has to start from the back.
