Power unit elements
On this page you can see how many power unit elements and gearboxes each driver has used in his car during the 2023 Formula 1 season.
The amount of used F1 power unit elements that are allowed to each car during the season is limited. During the 2023 season teams are allowed to use 4 ICE, 4 TC, 4 MGU-H, 4 MGU-K, 2 ES, 2 CE and 4 GearBox units per car without penalty. When the use exceeds these amounts of power unit elements or gearboxes the driver of that car will receive grid penalties in the following race.

MGU-H = Motor Generator Unit Heat (max. 4 without penalty)
MGU-K = Motor Generator Unit Kinetic (max. 4 without penalty)
ES = Energy Store (max. 2 without penalty)
CE = Control Electronics (max. 2 without penalty)
EX = Engine EXhaust system (max. 8 without penalty)
GBX = Gearbox case and cassette (max. 4 without penalty)
GDC = Gearbox driveline, gear, change components and auxiliary components (max. 4 without penalty)
Penalties
2023 Power Unit Element & Gearbox Penalties
- Saudi Arabian GP: Charles Leclerc, Ferrari SF-23 #16 will receive a drop of 10 grid positions due to using three CE units.
- Australian GP: Sergio Pérez, Red Bull RB19 #11 required to start the race from the pit lane for using three CE and ES units.
- Spanish GP: Charles Leclerc, Ferrari SF-23 #16, 15 places grid penalty for additional ES and CE unit.
- Belgian GP: Max Verstappen, Red Bull RB19 #1, 5 places grid penalty for additional gearbox replacement.
- Belgian GP: Nico Hulkenberg, Haas VF-23 #27, required to start the race from the pit lane for using 5th power unit elements.
- Dutch GP: Kevin Magnussen, Haas VF-23 #20, required to start the race from the pit lane for using 5th power unit elements.
- Singapore GP: Zhou Guanyu, Alfa Romeo #24, required to start the race from the pit lane for using 5th power unit elements.
- Mexican GP - Yuki Tsunoda, AlphaTauri #22 - required to start from the back of the starting grid - Additional power unit elements have been used.
- Las Vegas GP - Carlso Sainz, Ferrari #55 - drop of 10 grid positions for the next Race in which the driver participates.
