Lewis Hamilton won the first new qualifying show at Melbourne today. He scored the 54th pole for his Mercedes team and the 50th F1 pole position of his F1 career.
The new controversial format for qualifying showed it wasn't as exciting as before at the end of the session.
Five minutes before the end of Q3 a lot of cars didn't go out anymore, because they knew they won't beat Mercedes. Only Nico Rosberg cared to go out and moved from 4th to 2nd position.
Hamilton almost beat the pole position record time 1:23.529 of Sebastian Vettel from his Red Bull period back in 2011. Sebastian Vettel did score 3rd place with a difference of 0.35 sec to his Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen, who will start from 4th grid slot.
A lot has been said about the new qualifying formula, from our part it did not give us more excitment then before and we think the old formule was still better. Hopefully the FIA will fine tune the new formula, so it will be exciting till the last second like it was.
