Russian Grand Prix pole sitter Nico Rosberg says he is not concentrating on Lewis Hamilton’s bad luck as he seeks victory this weekend.

The German is the heavy favourite to win tomorrow after Hamilton’s engine failure cost him a shot at pole.

He will start 10th at best, and could slump to the back if he needs a new engine.

“I didn’t know was Lewis had,” he said.

“I just focus on myself and I was really going for it and feeling great, It went well today, I felt awesome.

“The others have been unfortunate so that makes my race easier tomorrow but an F1 race is never easy.

“But where the guys are behind, the opposition is still close so I need to keep focus and get the job done.”

Rosberg messed up his last run in qualifying and was seen strolling down the pitlane as the others crossed the line.

However, he is adamant he knew pole was his.

“I was quite confident that the lap was good enough,” he said.

“In Q2 Ferrari was quite far away and I knew Lewis couldn’t participate so I was sure it was good enough. I was glad eventually when Seb crossed the line.”
