Lewis Hamilton has the right to be very upset with his Mercedes team after a second qualifying issue in a row cost him badly in Russia today.

The world champion could start from the back of the gird after an engine failure, identical to the one which cost him in China.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff claims the Englishman has dealt with his bad luck well so far, but his mood could be dampened if he is moved to the back of the grid.

“I hope not but we need to discuss with the FIA what we want to do and hopefully makes the most out of it,” he said.

“He has been great so far this season and taken all the low punches in great spirit. Right now he has the right to be upset. “

Wolff admitted that the team are unsure what is causing the problem and they will have to dig deep to find a cure.

“It is very bizarre,” he said.

“It is the same failure as Shanghai so we need to re-assess the root of the problem.

“It is motor racing, it can happen but it is very unfortunate it happens to Lewis. He has all the bad luck and Nico doesn’t.”
