Lewis Hamilton will start on pole position for tomorrow's Canada Grand Prix after he edged out Nico Rosberg in Montreal.

The defending world champion finished 0.062s ahead of his title rival, as the pair finished comfortably clear of Ferrari and Red Bull.

Sebastian Vettel will start third, ahead of Daniel Ricciardo, but he finished almost 0.2s back from Mercedes and never really threatened.

Max Verstappen will start fifth, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and the Williams pair of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa.

Hamilton has won four times in Canada and will be favourite to do so again tomorrow, although he has to improve his starts against the impressive Rosberg - who has beaten him off the line three times already.

Fernando Alonso will also be optimistic after he qualified 10th on a track McLaren are not expected to do well at.

The British outfit have clearly made strides forward, with Jenson Button starting 12th, behind Sergio Pérez.

Toro Rosso failed to deliver on their promise, with Daniil Kvyat 13th and Carlos Sainz crashing out.
