Sep.21 - Toto Wolff says "the door is open" to a potential future in formula one for Lucas Auer.

Auer is the 22-year-old nephew of former F1 driver, BMW chief and Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger.

The young Austrian is now driving for Mercedes in the German touring car series DTM, but has never made a secret that his real goal is F1.

When asked about that, Mercedes chief Wolff told APA news agency: "Every driver dreams about formula one.

"I think the best example is Pascal Wehrlein, who won the title in DTM and earned his chance to come to formula one. So the door is open to Lucas."

However, Wolff also warned that he does not see any Austrians who are on the absolute cusp of F1.

"I would like to see it happen as soon as possible," he said, "but at this moment I don't see anyone who is close to the transition to formula one."
