Event: Belgian Grand Prix
Track: Spa Francorchamps Circuit
Weather: Partly Clouded, 12.3ºC
Tarmac: Dry, 19.8ºC
Wind speed: 5.8 km/h
Humidity: 74.4%
The track was still a bit moist from the rain last night. But the circuit was dry enough to use the slick tyres. With an ambient temperature of only 12 degrees Celsius It was the coldest practice session of the 2018 F1 season until now.
Fernando Alonso clocked the first lap time of 1:47.202 min in the McLaren MCL33 on Medium tyres.
From the moment both Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen showed up with there Ferrari SF71H, they showed the rest of the grid that they are the team to beat. They topped the time-sheet during the whole FP3 session.
Raikkonen's lap time of 1:43.425 driven on Supersoft tyres was already set after 6 minutes into the session and was for 40 minutes the time to beat. With 15 minutes to go it was Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel who improved that time with 0.063 sec.
With only 10 minutes to go the third practice session was red flagged because Stoffel Vandoorne was pushed onto the grass with his McLaren when he tried to pass the much slower driving Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas coming out of Raidillion corner and driving around 300 km/h.
After the track was cleared almost all teams except tried to do a qualifying simulation lap. All cars were coming out of the pit at quick as possible. Pierre Gasly even spun in the Toro Rosso coming out of the pit. There was only still 2 minutes to go, so time was limited. Not even all cars could drive a complete lap.
