Lewis Hamilton Mercedes Japanese GP F1/2018

Event: Japanese F1 Grand Prix
Track: Suzuka Circuit

Weather:  Mostly Sunny,  25.4ºC
Tarmac: Dry, 25.7ºC
Wind speed: 24.1 km/h
Humidity: 90.7%

The final practice started on a damp track. It drizzled earlier today. It was still cloudy and the chance of rain was 40%. More problematic in FP3 was the amount of wind.

Nico Hulkenberg was the first to venture out on the damp track. The Renault was shod with soft compound tyres, which is a good indicator of the track conditions. Clearly Renault believe it is dry enough to warrant the use of slicks.

In the beginning of FP3 Softs were all around for the early runners, Only Kimi Raikkonen was headed straight out on the Supersofts. Ferrari went aggressive on tyre strategy, taking more sets of the red-marked rubber than any other team.

After 20 minutes the rain came and all cars return to the very slippery pits. Ten minutes later the rain stopped and five minutes later the race line dried -out.

12 minutes before the end of the session Lewis Hamilton lapped the best time of the session, but Sebastian Vettel was with  0,1 sec difference much closer than in both earlier practice sessions.

In the last few minutes the session was stopped when Hulkenberg crashed his RS18 in turn 4 after he hit the wet curbs coming out of turn 3. The back of his car is very damaged. That's a lot of work for the mechanics to fix 2 hours before qualifying.
