The first practice of the 2018 US F1 GP started off very wet. In this session we saw to replacement drivers again. Lando Norris again was driving the McLaren of Stoffel Vandoorne. Sean Galeal drove the Toro Rosso of Brandon Hartley.

Marcus Ericsson was the first to go out in his Sauber C37. He used the full wets but didn't set a lap time.

The first drivers who put a lap time on the sheet were the drivers of Red Bull.Daniel Ricciardo drove a 1:55.226 on intermediate tyres and Max Verstappen did a lap in 1:53.664 min on the same tyres.

Half way the session FP1 got red flagged because Charles Leclerc spun his Sauber and did some off-road. He lost a lot of gravel coming back on the Austin track that had to be removed.

With 20 minutes to go rain master Lewis Hamilton showed he is the one to beat again and drove 1.3 seconds faster than Bottas on a hot lap with the Mercedes W09 with intermediate tyres.
