Whiting: Verstappen now 'very mature'
Nov.11 - Max Verstappen has become "very mature".
That is the view of FIA race director Charlie Whiting.
Earlier in 2018, the Red Bull driver struggled with a series of mistakes. But after that, Verstappen's form surged.
"True, after Monaco, things changed. I would say that the last 12 races have flowed very well," he told Globo in Brazil.
"I wanted to get results too much and in the wrong way, with a lot of anxiety," Verstappen admits.
"I had to stop, work, reflect, slow down, which made me fast and consistent. Before it was all or nothing and I took enormous risks.
"I'm still aggressive, but in a way to keep everything under control," he added.
Whiting says he has noticed that change, even though Verstappen will still not hold back his strong opinions when he is penalised.
"Max has given the sport new dimensions, searching for and seeking out his limits. In the emotion of the moment I understand his reaction when he or someone else gets punished," he told De Limburger.
"But I recently spoke with him on the plane after his victory in Mexico, and he has become very mature," Whiting added.

B**l sh*it! Max acts like.a.5 year old pr*t kid. Attacking Ocon becuase he was not happy about the Brazil result. He really did not need to race Ocon as Hamilton rightly said - he should have let Ocon pass! BUT Mad Max!
Deciding to.attack a person is disgusting behaviour and shame on Horner for condoning Max's outrageous behaviour! No wonder Horner left his wife after she just had his kid for Gerri- condoning violence is NEVER acceptable!
Mr. Whiting:
Max Verstappen is NOT mature. His language and shoving in Brazil confirms that. Is he fast? Yes. Is he aggressive? Yes. But mature - no.
Max is most definitely immature and Charlie Whiting must now be regretting trying to suck up to this gifted but dangerous driver. However, the trouble lies deeper. When you get Max on live audio threaten to beat him up if he finds him and the this happens (the handbags at dawn pushing by Max) is bad enough but you then get Horner state that his opinion is that Ocon was lucky to just get a shove and the the very learned Dr. Marko openly suggest Ocon did it under orders from Mercedes.
What an environment Red Bull have created. No wonder Daniel is leaving.
Calm down guys. Eat a sandwich, drink a glass of milk, do some f***ing thing. Max verstappen is paid to race a car , not to be mature.
Max is not paid to threaten otbers and phyically attack others when he loses on the grid due to his own ego! What a d**khead Max is - as Hamilton called him earlier in the season!! Max is mature - Charlie? Really!
Horner get Max anger management coaching sessions or a dummy and as for old man Red Bull Dr H suggesting Ocon was told by Toto to stitch Max up- well he must be either on the bottle or getting dementia.
I quite agree with your assessment of Helmut Marko. Decidedly the least likeable person in the F-1 Universe.
As for Max Verstappen, I have said repeatedly that I used to dislike him immensely, and I repeat that here. I was particularly turned off by his being an instrument in Marko's hands to bully Kvyat.
However, there is no way around the fact that he is a fast driver, and Brazil Grand Prix proved it. Of all the drivers on the grid Ocon is definitely my favourite for a number of reasons. However, in this instance he did cost Verstappen a victory and the stewards seem to concur by penalizing him 10 seconds.
Posters seem to have pulled all the stops when it comes to Verstappen. He seems to be guilty of just about everything, including being the son of an obnoxious father that everybody seems to dislike. Why it is taken out on Max is beyond me.
I bet Charlie wishes he could delete his words - he said VER has matured ! Really! Brazil 2018 proved his words to be very wrong!
Little spoilt prick Verstappen! Never liked him - never will!! What a waste of talent!!! Hey Jos, slap your kid around a bit and teach him some manners! He is currently a shame to the Sport! F off bully!
