Today was a very important day for the 2019 F1 season. It was the first day of of winter testing on the Catalunya circuit near Barcelona. All teams except Williams could test out their car designs in the real world today. The Williams FW42 wasn't finished yet to get going.

The other nine teams did manage to finish their 2019 car. Alfa Romeo Racing (former Sauber) even revealed their 2019 car this morning and was the last car that wasn't officially launched. They did drive a couple of laps on Fiorano last week, but didn't show their 2019 livery to the public.

This morning the winter break ended as at 9:00 o'clock local time the cars started to come alive. Carlos Sainz took of as first of all cars with the McLaren in the MCL34 and hit the track. The Spaniard was followed out by Ferrari's SF90 with Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes W10 with Valtteri Bottas.

The first red flag was caused by Kimi Raikkonen. The Finnish driver lost control of the Alfa Romeo C38 on the first lap in turn 5 and couldn't get out of the gravel trap on his own.

It was also the first time we could see the "real" Renault RS19 today.

The following drivers were getting some action in their car today:
Mercedes: Valtteri Bottas & Lewis Hamilton
Renault: Daniel Ricciardo & Nico Hulkenberg
Red Bull: Max Verstappen
McLaren: Carlos Sainz
Racing Point: Sergio Pérez
Haas: Romain Grosjean
Toro Rosso: Daniil Kvyat

Fastest overall was Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari SF90. The German driver drive an unbelievable 169 laps around the Catalunya track. He did spin his Ferrari early in the morning, but was able to go on unharmed and also drove the most laps and although lap times don't say much today, he also drover the quickest lap time of the day.

The fastest lap time of last year was driven by Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes W09. He drove a 1:19.333 on the 2nd day of testing. The first day nobody could drive a decent lap time, due to snow.

Pirelli used a chrome mould on the F1 Pirelli tyres for the first time to give them a nice shining look. They say it doesn't effect the performance of the tyres.

Romain Grosjean was very happy with his Haas VF-19 and was saying the car was feeling very good, when his car broke down because of a fuel pressure issue.

During lunch team the news got out that the Williams FW42 also will not be driving on the 2nd day of testing. Carlos Sainz made it a very good first outing at his new team by finishing second with the McLaren MCL34. He was ahead of Romain Grosjean in the Haas VF-19. Max Verstappen with the new Honda engine ijn the back of the Red Bull RB15, was driving a lot more laps than last years first day. He and Kimi Raikkonen in the Alfa were just behind Grosjean, with both completing over 100 laps for their respective teams.
