On the third day of testing the Williams team was at last able to start testing the FW42. This is what Paddy Lowe, the Chief Technical Officer at Williams, said about the situation and their first day of testing:
"It’s very disappointing to miss two days of this first test in Barcelona, but we are very happy today that we got the car out for the afternoon session. We were late but not for the lack of incredible effort from the whole team both in the factory and here in the garage.
We spent the afternoon doing a number of systems checks and various data gathering programmes without any significant reliability issues, so we are happy with that as a first look at the FW42. This puts us in good shape to get down to some more significant programmes starting tomorrow morning.
We have missed a lot of time, but we are looking forward at this stage and we will make the very best use of the five days remaining of winter testing. Thank you to all the staff for their teamwork and dedication in getting this car out today."
2019 rookie George Russel was driving the car yesterday. The 2018 F2 champion drove 23 laps in the brand new car. The Williams team only had their focus on system checks, so the lap times where not important.
The other teams were already lapping a lot faster than Tuesday again. The Haas team caused the only three red flag situations. Pietro Fittipaldi was again driving the VF-19 instead of Kevin Magnussen. The Danish driver could still not driver his car due to a headrest problem. An ignition-coil related issue forced a temporary halt to proceedings, but a short-stay in the garage to fixed the issue.
Toro Rosso was having a trouble free day. Russian driver Daniil Kvyat drove 137 trouble free laps with the Honda powered STR14 and even drove the quickest lap time of this 3rd day of practice. They were able to focus on the C2 and C3 tyre compound evaluation on long runs.
