George Russel was the first to clock a lap time in the 3rd and final practice for the Monaco GP. His first tour around the Monaco street circuit was done in a very slow time of 1:22.611.
Half way the session Sebastian Vettel made a crucial error in turn 1 and crashed the SF90 in the barrier which ended his final practice just before qualifying. The session was under virtual safety car for a short period.
Both Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas again topped the time sheet. The only one who could come close was Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen, who was only 0,1 sec. apart. Hamilton and Bottas alternately took over the fastest lap time.
With 27 minutes to go the Red Bull mechanics pushed the RB15 of Verstappen backwards into the garage to check out the floor of the car.
The qualifying simulations started with 20 minutes to go. It was home boy and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc who bettered the time of Bottas with 0.073 sec. He was only the quickest in the second sector at that moment, but kept P1 until the end. An achievement nobody expected.
Best of the rest was Alfa Romeo driver Antonio Giovinazzi. He was 6th fastest and even faster than his experienced team mate Kimi Raikkonen.
It's great to see the top 4 are very close again. Hopefully qualifying will also show the same picture.
Last years quickest lap time was a 1:11.756 driven by Daniel Ricciardo with the Red Bull RB14.
