First practice for the US F1 GP started of very cold with only 9°C! Nicolas Latifi again drove the Williams FW42 of George Russell this first practice in Texas.
A lot of teams used the first part of practice to check and measure their cars. Ferrari was driving around with 2 bright lights on the back of the car, while Valtteri Bottas his Mercedes was fitted with an aerorack.
During this session the teams also received the 2020 spec Pirelli tyres to discover their performance.
Mercedes had an unusual slow pace compared to Ferrari and Red Bull and both drivers were over 2 sec. slower until 10 minutes before the end. Lewis Hamilton was testing the 2020 tyre.
It hasn't been a good session for Latifi. The Canadian had some gearbox trouble in the beginning of the session and only drove 7 laps.
