Wolff: Mercedes able to replace Hamilton
Mercedes will be able to attract a good replacement if Lewis Hamilton decides to leave, according to team boss Toto Wolff.
In recent days, and in particular following the re-signing by Ferrari and Red Bull of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen respectively, rumours of a new two-year deal for Hamilton have emerged.
But team boss Wolff thinks Mercedes, who are reportedly expected to commit to F1 at least in 2021 and 2022, would be able to cope with Hamilton's departure.
"I think any sports team is not static," he is quoted by Formula Rapida.
"That means there is always going to be some change, and change is something that can also provide opportunity.
"So while I still very much hope that our relationship continues, I am not totally in control of that.
"There is no doubt that Lewis is a very strong pillar within the team. I think that the values we have are that morality and integrity is absolutely number one. And understanding Lewis' position and objectives will be key for any decision that we take," Wolff added.
So for now, Wolff said he is determined there will not be any speculation about who might potentially replace Hamilton.
"We will not embark on a fishing mission with potential drivers out there before Lewis and I – Lewis and us - we will have that conversation," he said.
"But I think as long as we are able to produce a quick car, and a powerful engine, we will always have opportunity to decide who drives the car. And I think there will be no doubt that Lewis is our priority."

It would be very interesting to find out if Hamilton is as good as they say. Easy to say that when you are in an almost invincible car. Like to see how he goes in another team.
Yes I agree. he soon dumped Mclaren when they looked like not being top dogs.
If it is such a great car and not the driver Please please tell me why Valteri languished down in the top six No doubt its a great car but c'mon acknowledge Lewis for what he is A great Driver
Hes not going to go down easily Lewis will probably go for #7 then retire Hes upper thirtys and kids about him and Kimi being the old men, He will be the G.O.A.T. and unlike many other drivers he has his fingers in Many other pies to keep him busy. I foresee once lewis is gone probably there will be time for Max or Charles to fight it out unfortunately their teams have bound them up in such long term contracts that they wont get a chance to get to Mercedes. If Lewis retires unless a miracle happens Botas is not the driver who mercedes will use as #1 or even keep him around. He was only signed on for one more year. Ocon, Norris, albon, might be strong contenders, and Max and Leclerc if they can get away from the iron grips of red bull and ferrari.
All the above comments have a certain amount of truth to them. I can't argue that. I still believe if Hamilton was not in the mercedes, he wouldn't have anywhere near the amount of champiinships he has. I also am a true believer that the cars in any 2 car team, the lead driver has the better car. May be minor changes however that is my belief.
