Ferrari has moved to downplay boss Mattia Binotto's warning that the Maranello team could pull out of Formula 1.

Binotto had warned that a reduction in the budget cap below $145 million could mean "having to look at other further options for deploying our racing DNA".

A Ferrari spokeswoman denied that the comment was a quit threat.

"On the contrary, he said that we would not want to be put in a position of having to look at further options, besides continuing racing in F1, for deploying our racing DNA," she said.

And the Spanish newspaper El Confidencial also quoted Binotto as clarifying his comment.

"To clarify the point: if the budget adjustment is too severe, we would look at other competitions in addition to Formula 1," he reportedly said.

McLaren boss Zak Brown commented on the reports during a video interview with reporters, including Binotto's claim that F1 should not be in a "hurry" with measures.

"I'm almost at a loss what you say to that," he said.

"I think we all recognise that in modern times we are going through the biggest crisis the world has seen. To not be in a hurry to address what's going on, I think is a critical mistake.

"It's living in denial and I think you would find pretty much every president or prime minister or CEO around the world was operating in a hurry to tackle this issue head-on.

"To take our time I think is a very poor leadership strategy," Brown insisted.

Fun to see how fast Ferrari can run backwards. Sarcastically, Zak might consider that it is best if some of these jerkwads do sit on their hands and do nothing, maybe the guys with the bovine on the side of their cars.

Sorry but how stupid is it to "trust"this Zak Brown who is just a former marketing guru from the states and is interested only in moving F1 into the format of US series lke Indycar or Nascar. F1 history is totally unimportant for the likes of him and his fellows(Chase) F1 is about to be ruined but not by corona but by these stupid inplementing of rules. Unbelievable that this is happening

Is there no end to the yank hating from you Euro/Brits? I suggest that you google Zak and read his bio, and then compare his true racing background to the likes of some other team principles who have zero real racing experience. BTW, Liberty management is not one of his "fellows". Also, insulting IndyCar by equating it to BASHCAR is incorrect. How about basing your comments on fact rather than yank hating?

Sorry man, but I am certainly no yank hater at all actually I like the USA but that doesn't mean that I like ALL the American businessMen nor being influenced what their bio says. I react on mr Browns posts considering F1 rules and yes I believe he is not interested too ,much in the history of F1 . and yes he didn't do a good job after taking over RonDennis position in this F1 race team. And Indycars is great if you like that way of racingformat, well guess what I don't like a same sort of format in F1 racing at all!Has nothing to do with yank hate at all . Sorry that you take it this way but you are free to say whatever yoi like man , no offense taken. Have a nice day

In 1980 there were at least 5 "Customer team" cars at Jarama Spain and most of that season and 1981. Coincidentliy Enzo Ferrari was in the pit lane spitting out his dummy and regaling people then. Nothing much has changed now with their petulant self interest.
