Jul.21 - Lewis Hamilton has hit back at F1 legends Mario Andretti and Sir Jackie Stewart over their recent criticism of the Mercedes driver's Black Lives Matter activism.

As the six-time world champion spruiks his anti-racism message within the F1 paddock, 1978 title winner Andretti suggests that Hamilton is actually "creating a problem that does not exist".

Hamilton, 33, responded on Instagram.

"This is disappointing but unfortunately a reality that some of the older generation who still have a voice today cannot get out of their own way and acknowledge there is a problem," he said.

"This is plain ignorance but that will not stop me from continuing to push for change. It is never too late to learn and I hope that this man who I've always had respect for can take the time to educate himself," Hamilton added.

As for triple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart, he recently said of the anti-racism campaigning: "I don't think there's as big a problem as there might seem".

"Again, another one," Hamilton responded. "Just disappointing."

HAM deserves great respect for his racing abilities and has an absolute right to offer his opinions, but I fear he is losing fan base by conflating racing and race. Perhaps the confusion is his. We watch F1 for the racing, not racial pontification. Now go win at the airport and set lap records

I think Hamilton should be boycotted.
Until now I had only positive excitement emotions about F1. Since Hamilton started with this populist nonsense reading the news about F1 gets me upset.

Hamilton - what did you do with Formula 1 I loved?

Can somebody please explain "educate/take action/there is a problem" (Hamilton's words) as I am honestly not clear what he means. "End racism" and "black lives matter" are two different issues as far as I am concerned. I wish to know what/who I need to educate, what action I must take, and explain "the problem".

Why isn’t Hamilton showing up in Chicago in protest to children being murdered along with hundreds of Black on Black shootings? We have a F1 club with 21 members that meet to enjoy racing not Hamilton’s blather about something he has no clue about! We he raised a closed fist ala Carl Lewis we voted to quit watching F1 until they get this uninformed person some education. When we see Hamilton doing anything constructive instead of decisive we wii vote to watch again, however I think F1 has lost over half of our club. Mercedes should be ashamed for being afraid of Hamilton. Probably 1/2 the field could win the championship in that seat!

Formula 1 should not endorse the independent action of Lewis Hamilton. F1 has quite rightly acknowledged recent events as an organisation and that should suffice. Lewis should have points deducted for the black fist and told not to take the knee. This is sport and not a political platform.

Why did F1 delete my comment. Is this happening to other people? What happened to free speech? I glad I kept a photo of my comment, hopefully this will be posted and if F1 has any integrity they will repost. My first comment. I’m not holding my breath. My post was from Dean Hoyle

Dean, I'm not sure they delete posts. I think it's a caching problem. Try closing your browser, clearing your browsing history and re-checking site. That works for me.

Guys, try logging into the comments board for "Todt and Ecclestone respond to Hamilton criticism", this recently was by far the most visited comments board for any posted article, with over 60 comments, but it looks like this comments board is now inaccessible, so taken down/deleted.
