New Mercedes-Hamilton contract deal further delayed
Oct.2 - The matter of Lewis Hamilton's expiring Mercedes contract could be delayed until after the 2020 season.
Earlier, the six-time world champion indicated that he felt uncomfortable negotiating a new deal for 2021 and beyond amid the covid crisis.
But others suspect that he is waiting to see not only how speculation of a potential team sale pans out, but also what role Toto Wolff will have in the future.
"It is clear that I want to continue with the team, but we can sit down to do that later," Hamilton said. "I am not talking to anyone else."
The German broadcaster RTL claims the matter of Hamilton's contract has been postponed until after the 2020 racing season.
When asked about that, team boss Wolff told Sky Deutschland: "That can happen. We have already done that in the past.
"I love working with Lewis and I think it's mutual. A contract like that requires a lot of detailed work so we want to take our time to look at that."

LH could cost a lot of teams a LOT of money if he moved or took a year out with all the moving that would cause.... :-)
HAM best keep his ego under control. With Honda's exit, VER is the one in play and Lulu might find himself outside looking in unless he thinks Mr. Stroll will fire his kid. Fat chance.
There is no doubt that LH is a brilliant driver. But I don't like him as a person. He is clearly too mercenary, and just looking out for himself. He must be worth so much, he should be a bit more generous, and worry more about the World and other people.
Geoff, I am in total agreement with you.
I, too totally agree. F1 would be better off without him
He is so damned selfish isn't he. You should tell us what your favorite white driver is doing so you like him on a personal level?
Do you think HAM's speaking out on racial issues only doing it for himself. How do you know he isn't generous enough to suit you, I guess he hasn't given you a check, huh.
Hamilton is probably the greatest race car driver of all time but the fact that his father is a black man just burns your ass doesn't it? Why do you even bother with HAM and no one cares about your personal feelings, I'll give you a quarter and you can spout your nonsense to a help line.
Louis H is a perfect cheapskate and a bad personality to advocate BLM . Get off your derriere and donate to that cause instead running your mouth about it .Action speak louder . MS was the real CHAMPION .Keep fighting MICHEAL .
Why indeed would Lewis want to undersell himself? As a global icon not only in the motor sporting world but also increasingly the world of music, Mercedes can easily afford him.
Because he is a cheapskate
Hamilton is paid too much and Toto may be the reason why he can demand so much. Let Kallenius handle the negotiations and drop his salary to $25 million or less. Hamilton has nowhere to go, especially if he wants to keep winning. Until he went to Mercedes and they dominated the turbo-hybrid cars, he was not setting that many records. He owes his success to Mercedes, even using their engines at McLaren.
Lewis is a gentleman, admits his mistakes and is wasted on assholes like you. He could go to any segment of the marketplace and make so much more money, but his love of F1 and dedication to racing keeps him here. Once again, some fans do not understand the quality of, nor appreciate what they are witnessing.
The problem for Mercedes is that his politics do them more harm than good.
In this day and age you only get paid what it is worth to your employer. Mercedes are making a lot of money out of Hamilton's successes so why shouldn't Hamilton get what he can whilst he can. Remember, the dangerous sport he is participating in can come to an abrupt end for Hamilton at anytime so as far as I am concerned keep at it Louis.
What is the point in paying someone tens of millions of pounds unless you are getting tens of millions of pounds back from your investment? Given that hardly anyone watches or cares about F1 now, whatever is the point?
Have any of you actually been so sad as to buy a Mercedes because he drives for Mercedes?
I have to say that his politics are so offensive that I will not buy another Mercedes product because of him.
Cut your nose off to spite your face. I'll never by another Merc, but I have not bought one before either but that is because I love BMWs.
Lastly, I have to question why you are here because it is an F1 centered site. Maybe you are here to spread hate.
There are hundreds of ' commercial 'sports men & women in our world these days earning huge income in various sports! I think it's sad that sport has for a long time now lost direction in persuit of great wealth & not for a living or achievement! Unfortunately this will never change, it's gone too far!
As a proper F1 fan for several decades and as a humanitarian I feel it is such a disappointment to read these comments. LH with the support and sacrifice of his family, has had such a very hard time to rise to be one of the worlds best sportsman. When he wins it is poorly reported by the mainstream media and yet through him we are showing the world that Britain is pretty dam good at something. I remember Steve Davis the snooker player and Bjorn Borg in tennis being slagged off because they won a lot. Why can you not just enjoy this great sport and celebrate his genius. And as for mean, well you have no idea how how much the Queen gives away but you assume that Lewis does not appreciate everything he has and how far he has come since go-karting on Kimbolton airfleld. I notice however that since his first win he thanked the team, the spectators etc.. Leave him be, he gets better and better as a racer, and humanitarian.
As a humanitarian no he isn't , otherwise show us where did he contributed for any cause , like giving a couple million let along ten millions like Schumacher did ! Keep fighting Michael .
