Feb.2 - Lewis Hamilton has likened his experiences in Formula 1 to those of his childhood hero and F1 legend Ayrton Senna.

Currently the subject of intense speculation about his 2021 contract, the seven time world champion told La Gazzetta dello Sport's Sportweek publication that Senna also conspicuously stood apart during his time in F1.

"He was alone in a system that was not always friendly to him," Hamilton, 36, said. "That's something I have also experienced in my career."

The Mercedes driver said one of those experiences has been about racism.

"The Black Lives Matter protests in the United States reminded me of the racism I experienced in my youth," Hamilton said.

Amid that 2020 movement, Hamilton began the pre-race kneeling ritual which became part of official proceedings last season, while Mercedes reacted by painting its title-winning cars black.

"Focusing on these things gave me more power - an extra boost when I was racing on the track," said the Briton.

"It was no longer just about winning, but about a bigger goal."

It's amazing how y'all rant incessantly about some alleged superiority, yet hate on Sir Lewis Hamilton, because he's a blatant reminder of the mass delusion. It's OK though, because the metrics have been codified and history indelibly written and Sir Hamilton is the G.O.A.T.

As talented as he is, sometimes Sir Lewis is friggin' tone-deaf. Does he not realize that by his age, the great Senna was already two years DEAD?

What a tosser Hamilton is. He was picked up by McLaren at the age of 12 , there was no racism there.
The sooner he is out of F1the better. . We just want to watch f1 racing not using it as a platform for social issues.

knighthood is a British thing, is just a title and demands no respect or recognition from elsewhere and all he does is reinforce his stupidity,as a good driver in the best car, he deserves his seven world titles that is for sure, but his arrogance and " self centered bullshit is not needed in motor sport.

Where has the system not been friendly to him since he got picked up by McLarem. He started in a top team , almost won the championship on his first year in 2007, won it in 2008. Then had to move as Red Bull dominated 2010 - 2013. Went to Mercedes with the turbo V6 era , on the advice of Nikki Laida, since then Mercedes have dominated. Where has the system been unfriendly to him in that period. Is he talking about before he was picked up by McLaren. Can't compare that to Senna who had frenchman Balestiere to deal with when he was battling Prost.
Trying to play victim when he had a charmed run into and while on F1. Schumacher, Vettel , Verstappen and others all had to start in lesser teams in F1.

Les Les I applaud your logic and thinking but you forgot how he was brought up in the lovely town of Stevenage...... , or the slums of Stevenage as he called it, and his dad had 3 jobs so he could gokart, fair enough, now if hed needed 3 jobs just to put food on the table id applaud him more trouble is hes played the game , and we nolonger buy into the LH dream, come to that nor do Merc.....infact as he likes changing things so much , this year he should change his name to Lewis Bottas, due to his paltry 1 yr contract, i dont dislike LH but i wont be shedding any tears when hes gone from f1, im guessing he thought, mmmm mbe , sports personality of the year twice, now a knighthood, 3 yr deal in the bag.............unfortunately not Lewis,.same as previous f1 british champions , ruffle some feathers and your out of the door, i couldnt care about this yrs championship , just looking forward to a polite young brit called GR in 2022 and closer racing rant over again...sorry fellow posters
