May 22 - As the Monaco layout stands today, the most prestigious race on the Formula 1 calendar "will never be exciting for the fans".

That is the view of seven time world champion Lewis Hamilton, referring to the fact that the ultra-fast and high-downforce cars of today have outgrown the fabled and twisty street circuit.

"It's the best venue," Hamilton is quoted by DPA news agency. "It's the most beautiful place here. But you know beforehand that it will never be exciting for the fans."

The Mercedes driver says overtaking is now basically impossible at Monaco, adding: "I don't think the fans enjoy it.

"It's been going on for years and I think we have to change that," Hamilton, 36, added.

The Briton admitted he isn't sure what the solution to the problem is, but said: "I hope it will be more exciting for people in the generations to come."

Its one of my favorite races. Hamvwill is whining b/c he can't do bettee than 3rd row. Slow Bottas did better ;) Alonso was even worse... perhaps he watched Q2 & Q3 from his lawn chair track side? ;)

Michael Emons bbc f1 journalist/reporter even hes at it

"It is the most beautiful place we get to race but you already know it is never exciting for the fans."

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton spoke for many a Formula 1 fanatic in the build-up to the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.

After a year away from the calendar because of the coronavirus pandemic, the ultimate test of precision racing returns to the affluent, and extremely narrow, streets of Monte Carlo.

Which is great... for the drivers.

For the fans, however, the thought of another Monaco snoozefest - with zero overtakes - leaves us feeling colder than a triple-header at Paul Ricard.

Delve a little deeper via linkedin and youll find this chap went to university but as for Journalism he got an NVQ which is the same standard of qualification you can get for cleaning Fish tanks what with him and Andrew Benson , the BBC whove taken a bit of a hit in last cpl of days, have the id say worst f1 journalists going, now roll on Qualifying

I have been watching Monte Carlo since ABC began broadcasting the race in the US during the 70's. Pre DVD I lived in California and would get up at 5:30 AM to not miss a minute. My opinion, top of the list. Cancelling Monaco or Spa would, IMO, end the allure of F1.

Swede, the ambience at Monaco is about perfect, but the absolute BEST place to watch the race is sitting on my couch. If you're at Rascasse the action is at the hairpin. If you're at the hairpin the action is at the swimming pool. Then there's the new chicane.....etc. TV is the only way to be everywhere at once. But still, ah, the ambience of Monte Carlo.

Yes Monaco can be dull, but it can also provide the most memorable races and the most memorable results.
Yes the current cars are not ideal for it but the previous V8’s were, the grooved tyre cars were. Every year I always look forward to Monaco for its uniqueness and challenge, it’s unlike anything on the current calendar which makes it awesome. Lewis and Mercedes continuing to be exceptional is what’s turning me off these days not the Monaco track. Yes that’s not his or their fault but to say that this track is a turn off for fans doesn’t make sense to me. Monaco will provide the chance for someone else to hopefully win this year. He and Merc have one 13 championships between them since 2014 and it’s getting old, others deserve victories so stop saying what you think is bad for the fans Sir Lewis.

Monaco is always exciting for the Fans, as for overtaking, I guess Senna passing car after car, year after year doesn't count in Hamsters book. More of the same cry baby Hamster.

Moan all you want but it's never going to stop, too much money being shown off by the rich daddy's , it's all about sitting with the King and showing off every year, and half of them live there.

Amazing...when LH wins in Monaco,he doesn’t complain and whine. Now it’s boring for fans when he loses. Think LH is showing his bad side by whining. Get over yourself.
