Jun.14 - Lewis Hamilton is hinting once again that his retirement from Formula 1 lies not too far around the next corner.

"I really hope that I am no longer racing at the age of 40," the seven time world champion, who turned 36 in January, told the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

"That would be difficult, because there are so many things I still want to do."

In a separate report by Britain's Daily Mail, it is claimed that the Mercedes driver is willing to take a pay cut for a new one-year contract in 2022, but only if his championship-winning bonus is doubled.

Hamilton insists, however, that he is still enjoying Formula 1 for now.

"Things develop so quickly in life that it can surprise you," said the Briton.

"For example, I didn't expect to have so much fun this season," Hamilton told Corriere della Sera, referring to his head-to-head with Max Verstappen.

"I find out new things about myself every day."

He is also discovering how impressed he is with F1's new generation of drivers, which Hamilton says is "great".

"Lando Norris, George Russell, Charles Leclerc, and especially Carlos Sainz. He's new to Ferrari and driving very well. Together with Leclerc they are a very strong duo," he said.

"Formula 1 is in good hands," Hamilton added. "I predict a bright future."

When asked about Verstappen, his 2021 championship rival, Hamilton answered: "We respect each other on and off the track - there's nothing that has to change.

"He's a great driver and it's a lot of fun to compete against him," he insisted.

Boys, boys, boys, be nice...let's all get along. Shrop', this is the first sane comment from HAM in quite awhile. Jax, what two of your predictions have ever been correct? Awardguy, it is shoddy, not shoody. Where are the reasonable posters...Oldwit, Swede, Linda where are you? I can't do this alone.

I'm here 😂🤣 I don't comment much now because I don't want to join in with the childish nicknames for drivers & TP's. I left school a long time ago & have no wish to return to the playground, so I read through but can't bring myself to join in

        • shroppyfly

Lulu and Lucy are used widely across the f1 forums as nicknames for hamster i mean Sir Lewis, but esp in the uk, so dont be upset, its just boys being boys as RoR says . smh smh smh smh and a bit more smh from the likes of Jax and F1 did i mention smh ?

          • Linda

Oh I'm not upset. It would take far more than that to upset me 😁 I'm recovering from surgery, so maybe I'm just being grumpy. I'm sick of having to sleep in a boot with my foot elevated. I'll try to lighten up👍

Convenient memory lapse there Old fella? It happens with old age so I understand Lol. Your pal the Fly likely recalls so let him assist. Or you can go search the site since you two seem to live here Lol.
This must be a blow to those who naively thought Hammer would be going off into the sunset by year end. This is what happens bias clouds judgement. Smh

I think if i recall the right bull..it from Jax, it was that Lucy would resign for three years and win ten titles, yeah I know, he has to win this years first, but he seems to be having fun, hes pushing all Jaxes buttons...., maybe thats his problem, anyway the contracts if we are to believe Lulu and Tonto should be signed soon then we will know

Everyone seems to be missing the obvious. Put your money on LEWIS HAMILTON driving for FERRARI before he retires. He's giving himself three more years after this season at least, so next year at MERCEDES in case he doesn't get his eighth title this year, with potentially another, then a two-year swansong deal at FERRARI. Can't say I particularly warm to the guy, but there's no question he's one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time regardless of how easy he's had it for the last however many years. But he's also a fan of F1 and respects its history and has always had a desire to race for the SCUDERIA.

Great Idea, then he can join the ranks of other past WDC like Vettel and Alonso and Prost who joined the red team to win more WDC, oh no sorry that didn't happen did it, believe the above post if you like but Nawww ain't going to happen IMO Ferrari wont make that mistake a 4th time

        • ReallyOldRacer

Spot on, Sako. HAMfans seem to think that it is completely his choice where he drives.....it is not. The red team has what is arguably the best driving duo in F1. Time will tell if they can get the rest of their act together.

          • shroppyfly

And IF, and for HOW LONG, he drives, for all his posturing about this being a partnership blah blah, its bollox , all MB want to do is WIN , when they decide hes outlived his purpose theyll drop him , its professional life, gamesmanship, delusional whatever you call it even with all his titles but heh thats just my opinion,Your move Torger .... !!

  7. shroppyfly

We arent buying it Lulu lol (off bbc f1 page )

The incident happened because he had accidentally knocked a button in the cockpit - known within Mercedes as "magic" - that shifts the brake bias almost completely to the front for warming tyres on slow laps.

"I don't even count it as a mistake," Hamilton said. "I don't know what the one before that was. I don't feel any pressure. I feel pretty relaxed. You can't always be perfect.

"It was an unforced error, something we had that was sitting there that could have happened at any point, and unfortunately bit us pretty hard."

He said the team had made changes in the cockpit to try to prevent the same thing happening again.

"We haven't moved [the button]," he said, "just put a shroud around it to make sure I can't accidentally touch it in future. That's for the short term - the wheel is not so easy to move buttons so we will look for a longer-term solution in the future."
