Jun.27 - Toto Wolff has ruled out a new one-year contract for Lewis Hamilton.

Both the Mercedes boss and the seven time world champion have revealed this weekend in Austria that talks for a new deal are now in motion.

Last year, 36-year-old Hamilton delayed the talks all the way through the winter, ultimately signing a mere one-year extension in mid February.

"We will no longer do one year contracts - or contracts that we only sign a month before the start of a season," Wolff told the Austrian news agency APA.

However, he also explained at the Red Bull Ring that it was mainly circumstances that caused the situation in 2020.

"We both had covid, then it was Christmas, then it just slipped into January," said Wolff.

"We have a good enough relationship that we can do that, but this time we've started earlier."

When asked if a new multi-year contract could be his last one before Hamilton slips into a non-driving role, Wolff answered: "No, that's too far away.

"We are talking about racing now. And it's about the next few years - not one year, not five years. Somewhere in between."

Wolff also told Bild am Sonntag newspaper in Austria: "We are beyond the exploratory talks already. Now we're in the hot phase."

It is suggested that Hamilton is not keen on being paired with young hotshot George Russell, but Wolff insisted: "I think we are a lot closer to an agreement than a split."

You’ve had a better car for the last 6 years. Now all we hear is bitching about how fast the RB is when the rear wing is super trim

The facts are let Russel in that Merc and let’s all know for sure it’s not Hamilton it’s the car

About time u had something nice to say about our 7 time world champion, what about Vercrappen, his car is now the best on the grid, where is the saying with him, 'only won because he had the best car', its disgusting how u run Lewis down continually on this forum , Lewis is the GOAT and the records speak 4 themselves, he has nothing to prove, he is such a nice guy 2.

Its all about winning and no mater how good Hammy has been , when your times over, your times over, on the bbc f1 hys , LH is taking a right battering , it appears the Hammy fans are a tad worried about this yrs championship , i think Redbulls approach is the right one, if you can win the wdc and/or cc then go for it, im pretty sure all Torgers blabbering about the 22 car , every teams working on it, even if its just in the designers office, Torger should not use this as an excuse .IMO

And for the Lucy fans who have always said its Lewis not the car (when he wins) , lol even he now says its the car thats the issue (when he loses ), drive faster lulu , afterall that's what Torger keeps telling VB to do.

Boy the Hammer retirement mantra seems to be collapsing right quick Lol. Haters never learn apparently.
Now when Lord Lewis wins its mostly the car but when Max wins it's mostly him? Lol. Objectivity is clearly a foreign concept here. Let's go down history lane. Hammer almost won his first title in his first year of F1, losing by a single point and drawing level with 2 time champ Alonso in points. Then the following year, as in his second year, he won....by a point......in a McLaren that was not superior to Ferrari at the time! Max hasn't done anything even remotely this spectacular but somehow he's better than Lewis? Oh how logical Lol.

Here's another forecast by the Jaxter. 2022 belongs to Lord Lewis. Only caveat is whether it will be title #8 or 9. Time will tell. Mark the this one Pinky and Brainy; and the rest of thy haters.

So many Lewis haters on this forum, it makes me.laugh just how many British people run their own world champion down and praise vercrappen who is a big head, arrogant and does nothing but moan when thgs dont go his way, his Manager makes.stupid comments 2. All brits should get behind our British world champ. You wouldnt get behind Germany to win the football, u would want England to win but 4 some reason dont support yr f1 champion. Shame on u , he is a good guy and the best driver ever. You should be proud we have a British f1 world champion

i wonder why so many brits hate the honourable lewis ham.is it because he is black.i doubt that.maybe its because he is such a plonker

      • shroppyfly

plonker being almost polite, he's not liked because hes as ive said before disappeared up his arse of self importance, the premiership footballs is considered the best in the world, and 33% of players are black , on non white british, however what of % are bought in from overseas i dont know, not bad you might say, but lets take another British institution the the royal family only 8.5% are non white employees or as its fashionable to say BAME, youll never please everyone,Hamsters fans bring this up from time to time , Ahhh its because hes black blah blah , No its because he acts like an Arse simple as that, hes the Chris Eubank of F1 , fans loved to hate him, problem is say at SS hes mega popular, crowd surfing FFS hes 36yr so people think oh , everyone must like him Ermmm No fraid not .
I just hope 2 things when he retires, stay out of politics and away from F1 comm box

Rant of the day over I think, and just for the record I think Lindylew , is Jax in a dress .

shropfly it depends where you grew up.To the majority of those colonized the Union Jack was known as the 'Butchers Apron'. Though Britain boasted the sun never set on the British Empire, it would be more true to say, 'the sun never set and the blood of innocents never dried.'
