FIA ends risk of F1 teams skipping practice sessions
Jul.2 - F1's governing body has neutralised a risk that up to three teams could have sat out practice sessions ahead of the British GP.
After Sunday's race in Austria, Formula 1 moves onto Silverstone - where the trial of the new 'sprint qualifying' weekend format will begin.
But Aston Martin, Alpine and McLaren had all reportedly warned that with parc ferme pushed forward to Friday, their clutch designs would not cope with having to last an entire race weekend.
"If the FIA doesn't give in, we might have to skip a practice session, which I can't imagine was the intention of the regulator," Alpine's sporting director Alan Permane warned.
According to Aston Martin boss Otmar Szafnauer, the FIA did indeed relent.
"We have to present the replacement clutch with the machined carbon discs to the FIA before the weekend," he is quoted by Auto Motor und Sport.
"When we get the first clutch out of the car, it will be checked to see whether it is identical in structure to the spare part. It will be handled like car damage after an accident," Szafnauer revealed.
The rule modification is effective only for the rest of 2021.

Do I really want to spend 3 hours of the weekend watching f1 racing when the sun is out at home, I can see the the sprint race getting the viewers who then only watch the start and finish of the main affair.
Qualifying for me was mostly just looking at the end result, this may backfire on f1.
FIA is killing the F1 with all their stupid rules changes and changing directives everytime, when Mercedes is bullying the weak mr Massi, who realy seem to think that he need to fix races for the Fans? Go home man and FIA look for a more decent replacement of the forrmer C.W..Ofcourse mr R Brawn and Mr S Dominicali also need to stop intervering with the race results . Honor the real F1 fan more and stop trying to go for sensation hunting so called fans, please
My Opinion , is the same regarding Mr Masi, he seems to me a little weak and reactionary , as you i think rightly say CW was a top guy , , but he did have many more years of experience than Mr Masi, but again just my humble opinion , (not to be taken as fact )
I think that Charlie was a genius at placating the F1 egocentrics and then doing the right thing anyway. Tough act to follow.
I'm not knocking something the drivers are fairly enthused about. Let's see how it plays out. Going full bore on soft tyres and DRS for a couple laps seems intriguing.
