Jul.20 - Lewis Hamilton charged for "victory or death" before title rival Max Verstappen was tipped into a 51G crash at Silverstone's Copse corner on Sunday.

That is the view of one international media outlet in the highly-charged aftermath of the lap-1 incident that is now the major talking point in the British GP aftermath.

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher told Sky Deutschland that Hamilton's move was a "complete misjudgement" and "not a typical overtaking manoeuvre".

"If Lewis had stayed there, he would have pushed Max off the track. Instead, he pulled back and touched his rear wheel.

"Everyone knows from karting that you can't do that. It's damn dangerous to do it at that place," Schumacher added.

1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve told f1-insider.com: "I think the pressure to not be beaten by Max at his home track was so great that he subconsciously accepted the risk.

"I think he would have taken his foot off the gas in any other race," he added.

The Spanish sports daily Marca agrees.

"It was either victory or death for Hamilton at Silverstone, who said 'Basta!' to Verstappen on the first lap," the newspaper editorial reads.

"The Englishman refused to take his foot off the accelerator in front of his home crowd, and his doggedness led to a brutal accident for his Dutch rival."

Suddeutsche Zeitung correspondent Elmar Brummer opined: "Victory number 99 is perhaps the most questionable of Hamilton's career. And one of the most important.

"The tone of the entire championship may change now."

And Luigi Perna, of La Gazzetta dello Sport, surmised: "Hamilton made it clear that he is ready to do anything for the championship."

Corriere della Sera's Daniele Sparisci reported: "At Copse corner, Hamilton grabbed victory from Leclerc and also introduced us to his dark side."

Italian blogger Leo Turrini said: "I admire Lewis immensely, but a veteran doesn't make that kind of move at Copse on the first lap.

"The end result was Verstappen in hospital and a bad joke of a penalty. After all, you can win in many ways, but certain gestures cross lines and have consequences.

"I don't think Max will forget this," he added.

Finally, former Marussia car designer Igor Ermilin told Izvestia news agency: "Hamilton is guilty, but the stewards spared him.

"A ten second penalty for such an action is ridiculous. He threatened Max's life and caused serious damage to his car.

"Lewis should have been disqualified," he insisted.

      the media may sensationalize things but seems they are all in agreement about Lewis driving , course they've gotta fuel the fire, but Lewis wont like his mr goodguy attitude bruised like this , i feel another commission coming guys, last one had nearly as many pages as he has poles

      This to me is just one more incident of Hamilton's questionable driving style. A pattern has formed, he twice nerfed Albon off track to take him out before this. Those transgressions are part of the reason Albon lost his drive in F-1. This time he took out Max going about 180 mph. The FIA have to put a stop to drivers forcing others off track and then profiting from it. To me if you are coming from behind another car the responsibility is wholly on you to avoid an accident. The incident is right in front of your eyes. The lead driver has only mirrors and is already looking through the corner. I'm not for either Lewis or Max but this could have ended a career or worse.

    I do not agree at all. Max is now known to not tap off under these circumstances, if he had it would have been a totally different result. 50:50 racing incident.

        Didn't happen because of the lenient penalty and the race result .could easily have sent the other way.i saw some flags. With football messages on in the crowd.glad it didn't kick off too.

    It was a racing accident.If anyone does not accept the fact that accidents can happen he should not be racing.Racing is all about taking risks.

    Max could have backed off same as Lewis, but neither did, IF he hadn't gone off we would all be talking about such a great move , if it worked or not.
    We want close racing and until cares can follow each other without loss of downforce this is always going to happen now and again with such great racers.

      weve gotta move on but personally i think like a lot have said and infact i said prior to SS than LH must win, in the end it was a do or die move that got him the win, , makes the Championship better in a way, max with 2 x dnfs now, one last push in Balaton country before a break at the villas

    Hamilton will get a very different reaction from fans at Zandvoort. I hope they all boo Hamilton , Toto , and Mercedes relentlessly to show them what they think of them. Chants would help. In Australia we would chant "Hamilton's a wanker "

    The story repeat itself, I'm sure BLM may celebrate LH victory but no one else does. Shame on the Stewarts that showed a clear biased towards MB and LH. This story doesn't end here and will get a lot nastier outside the UK. MV will in the end beat LH hands down because it has a better car and he's a better driver. The revenge may provide a lot of entertainment.

      dutch,belgium and hungary, there will be an awfull lot of dutch fans at each, blm , ha, when was the last time he mentioned that, to busy coping with Max to worry , been reading a bit about LH contract a lot r saying its a 1+1 deal so he could still leave if he wins this yr , but like everything here its opinion with a sprinkling of fact
