Aug.6 - A new contender has emerged for the potential vacancies at Williams and Alfa Romeo for 2022.

Alex Albon lost his Red Bull seat at the end of last year, but he has remained a reserve driver as well as racing with the energy drink company's support in the German series DTM.

The 25-year-old is not ruling out a racing return to Formula 1.

"The time for talks begins now," Speed Week quotes the British-born Thai driver as saying.

"But in my situation, you always have to be open to other options such as Indycar or Formula E. If there is a chance to stay in the Red Bull family, I will definitely take it."

From Red Bull's perspective, Albon remains an important part of the Formula 1 camp.

"He's our best in the simulator," confirms Dr Helmut Marko. "His contribution to development is extremely important for the team.

"We won't ruin his future, but we want to keep him with us."

However, Marko does not deny that Red Bull might even help Albon to sniff out opportunities for 2022, with Williams and Alfa Romeo openly on the driver market.

"That would depend on the details of the contracts," said Marko.

Yeah, Ted Kravitz on Sky Sports really had it in for Alex and he drove the unwarranted hate campaign against him. Abley assisted by Hamilton taking Alex out in 2 races where he would have easily picked up a podium.

a young driver , who finished 8th in wdc in 2019 and 7th in wdc in 2020, funny any other driver wed be saying yeah not bad can improve , but because he was up gainst Max everyone down on him esp Mr Marko.

Which when we look now at Mr Yuki, in the AT Albon looks a star ...... or does he ,if you compare Albon with Yuki, they both in first 12 races had 5 points finishes each, now out of the two which is the better driver? Albon finished 8th in 2019 ( ok rb and at ) Yuki is currently 13th in 2021 (with a much better at ), place your bets .......

And Sergio , if he finshes 4-5th in wdc with 10yrs experience and price tag , does Albon look that bad swopping teams half way through and finishing 8th, in his 1st yr of racing f1 ?

There you go Sam , that enough support for British born Alex ...

Hi name rarely comes up as a replacement diver for 2022. Although, enjoyed watching his family in the pits during races - you could tell they were very proud of him (or was it his money? J/K).
