Verstappen gets three places grid penalty after Monza collision with Hamilton
Sep.12 - Max Verstappen received a 3 places grid penalty at the driver’s next event, what will be the Russian F1 GP in 2 two weeks.
The Red Bull driver also gets 2 penalty points on his licence. He now has a total of 2 points in the 12 month period.
The Stewards heard from the driver of car 33 (Max Verstappen), the driver of car 44 (Lewis Hamilton) and team representatives, reviewed the video evidence and determined that the driver of Car 33 was predominantly to blame for the collision with Car 44 at Turn 2.
Car 44 was exiting the pits. Car 33 was on the main straight. At the 50m board before Turn 1, Car 44 was significantly ahead of Car 33. Car 33 braked late and started to move alongside Car 44, although at no point in the sequence does Car 33 get any further forward than just behind the front wheel of Car 44.
During the hearing the driver of Car 33 asserted that the cause of the incident was the driver of Car 44 opening the steering after Turn 1 and “squeezing” him to the apex of turn 2. The driver of Car 44 asserted that the driver of Car 33 attempted to pass very late and should have given up the corner either by backing off sooner, or by turning left behind the kerb.
The Stewards observed on CCTV footage that the driver of Car 44 was driving an avoiding line, although his position caused Car 33 to go onto the kerb. But further, the Stewards observed that Car 33 was not at all alongside Car 44 until significantly into the entry into Turn 1. In the opinion of the Stewards, this manoeuvre was attempted too late for the driver of Car 33 to have “the right to racing room”.
While Car 44 could have steered further from the kerb to avoid the incident, the Stewards determined that his position was reasonable and therefore find that the driver of Car 33 was predominantly to blame for the incident.
In coming to the penalty the Stewards emphasise that they have only considered the incident itself and not the consequences thereof.
Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.

This should have been a race ban for Max imo. Angry about the long pitstop, he took that anger to Lewis. Max was lucky that the stewards only took into account the accident, & not what the consequences could have been. People keep saying how mature Max is now, but a mature driver would have hopefully, checked that the other driver who has got a car parked on their head, is ok & not stomping off like a petulant child
FFS if shamilton rear ended max in the red bull pit these stewards would exhonourate him
Madra mor, I'm sure that if LH rear ended MV in the RB pit, the stewards most certainly wouldn't exonerate LH. They take pitlane incidents seriously, regardless as to who is at the wheel
Reading into the pit stop and extrapolate that Max was at fault simply based on a reaction (pit-stop) that had nothing to do with the accident? Ok linda, let me guess- you're British or work for Sky sports or the FIA or just a LH homer....so your opinions are highly bias....which are now deemed irrelevant.
Kevin, yes I am English, I don't actually support anyone or any team, I just love the sport. I don't work for anyone, so not biased. I have no idea what an LH homer is. My comment was based on what I saw. Admittedly, I can't see into Max's head, so obviously, can't determine his anger but you can't deny surely, that Max wasn't reckless, regardless as to whether you are a Max fan? The fact that Horner said he thought it was a racing incident, set alarm bells ringing. Normally, he would be slating LH, right, left & centre. He knew the RB golden boy was at fault. My opinions are just that, my opinion. You have your opinion. Please note that in no way did I denigrate you, or your opinion in this reply, as I don't feel it's my right to be rude to anyone expressing their opinion. As it turned out, the stewards had a similar opinion to mine......
U can't see into max head but know all about what's in shamilton s head.loads of room in there I reckon
For someone who doesn't support any team you still have the boys for mercedes and shamilton with pretty biased views
Edit hots notboys
Kevin, this was a case of VER returning to his red haze days. I hope not a Senna move to protect his points lead. He honestly deserved to sit out a race. BTW, I am not British, not a SKY or FIA employee and not a HAM lover, just a racing fan...real racing.
On the other hand , I am British, I work for Sky and part time for the Fia, andddddd a big Hamilton fan .
So much for freedom of speech !
Hamilton is perfect. Will this be removed too ?
This should have been a race ban for Lewis imo.
This should have been a race ban for Lewis imo.
F1 is over, it’sTotto F1
team sky mercedes f1 racing ,looked very happy with the stewards decision.herbert and hill were elatedas was the mildew ted kravitz
They're members of the LH-BLM syndicate that drives FIA corrupt decisions in this sport. I'm over with F! as long as FIA is not removed from arbitrating these incidents. They must appoint an independent review panel to look at their decisions. They're killing racing and they're killing F1.
Team sky mercedes f1 commentator's looked pretty happy about max penalty the usual impartial bullshite from hill Berty and co.
team sky mercedes blm seemed elated with the stewards decision
I think max was angry over his long pit stop and I think a 3 place grid penalty is fair to a point.but I wonder if anyone else would have just walked away from another competitor who was still in a car with your car on top of him.i can't believe max just walked without even checking if Lewis was ok.upto this race even though I'm English I was a fan of max but I'm afraid after this I hope he fails in his attempt to become world champion.max you should be ashamed of yourself, something's are way more important than points.
You mean like LH did to max in silverstone?
Yea of course LH should have reversed back down the 180mph straight, some people are so clueless.
Hamilton did enquire as to Vercrashens health at Silverstone. By contrast Vercrashen just walked away without even a glance in Hamilton's direction. He should be ashamed.
what bullshite,
Bullshite remark directed at tunnicliff s comments
And f44award
and hollom
Andrew Tunicliff Exactly this. MV left his car parked on LHs head & stomped away like a recalcitrant child. Very unsportsman like, very immature & downright inexcusable. And he had the temerity to call LH disrespectful for celebrating the win at S'stone because he was in a hospital bed, but perfectly fine
Precision parking from max fair play
As LH was trying to reverse his car out of the gravel was that not obvious to all including MV that LH was ok!
Well the race committee disagrees and so do most of the comments on here.max proved today by walking away and not even checking if Lewis was ok that he's not such a nice chap after all.i think regardless of who was to blame, max walking away obviously in one has left a bitter taste for a lot of F1 fans.shame on you max.
No shame attached to max NONE
Nonsense low speed incident.shamilton just needed underwear
No bad taste here max did nothing wrong
agree absolutely, my thoughts exactly. the technicality of the clash is for the stewards to sort out and they have done so. for me, max walking off without so much as a sideward glance at lewis while his car was on top of the mercedes cockpit shows an utterly callous and inhuman streak...yet the same person was pretty vocal about lewis celebrating at silverstone while he was in hospital. i am not a hamilton or a mercedes fan. nor am i a verstappen supporter, so i think my opinion is unbiased. after what i saw from verstappen, however, disgusts me. i will never ever be a supporter of his.
re silverstone which was the more dangerous incident there or here ?
I see it like dc a racing incident but heh , not to bad for the championship
As for walking away, if he saw LH moving about then hes to assume hes ok, , how do we know he didnt glance across and look, no bitter taste for me thats racing move on
team sky mercedes f1 racing ,looked very happy with the stewards decision.herbert and hill were elatedas was the mildew ted kravitz
Well that's one myth busted, The Flying Dutchman does exist after all
You could also say the cream comes to the top shrop
Good one!
Once more it was demonstrated that LH has no answers to the flying duchtman other than the FIA biased to give him the championship by using the book rather than winning on the track. That amounts to nothing else than CORRUPTION!
Shroppyfly Good one 👍👏👏🤣😂🤣😂
Shrop', LOL, I was beginning to wonder about you. Sir Lewis aside, VER did a Senna on this one.
I do try and inject a certain humour into the proceedings when I can,
Conspiracy theory mercedes sky limited want shamilton to win again.think of the publicity for Merc toto and co.brown envelopes leave no tracks.the stewards are in mercs pockets.race fixing.might as well cross the plug leads in Max's car
To me this was a racing incident, very simple. Lewis squeezed Max and Max hit the curb because he did not choose to go straight. After hitting the curb, Max’s car goes up and hits Lewis. I’ve seen that a thousand times.
What I completely disagree: Why a penalty ???
This incident has nothing to do with the gravity of the Silverstone incident. That is a completely different thing and at a completely different speed.
"I’ve seen that a thousand times."
Nice to meet a former Formula Ford driver. LOL
I'm utterly disgusted. FIA will anything to award the championship to baby LH. They disadvantaged Verstappen in Silverstone by giving baby Zulu a very light penalty when he intentionally bumped MV off the track. MV had the upper hand all weekend and LH could only win by on of his FIA favoritisms. Perhaps being a member of BLM is all you need to win a championship.
you sound such a nice person
given mercedes benz sky f1'huge budget im sure a substantial bribe fund could be set aside for influential decision making.shamilton could afford to reward a few stewards as well.he has as much to lose as mercedes
Racing incident, but it was up to Max to back off if he couldn't make good.
Driving 101 actually.
Congratulations to Daniel and McLaren
.
unlikely daniel will repeat this result. combination of the sprint result and the track
Yeah man Landon has outperformed him all season and would have overtook if it wasn't for team orders
Max just demonstrates that he does not have the strategic quality to be a winner. If he had kept his cool in all the races run so far he would already be the world champion. He is causing his own difficulties by being so aggressive. he needs to learn that points make prizes and the more he tries to over compete, the less chance he has. The amount of points he has lost by challenging inappropriately is ridiculous, finishing the race is the aim to gain the most amount of points you can.
Herbert & Hill incapable of impartial presenting should be taken off air & go join the hamilton fan club all respect for them after Sunday's biased comments are gone! As for the crash racing incident, The stewards are just covering their ass after handing out a penalty at Silverstone to hamilton they don't want anybody to be able to say the championship was won by a stewards decision that's why Max was given the penalty usual politics & bull shit from F1 and the stewards
They are in the fan club already
Hmm, 40+ posts...nice to see the racists back. smh
Yes - sad
So if he takes the three place grid penalty and changes engines , is that another penalty or is it covered by his existing penalty, i read somewhere that's what rb would do in sochi, we need Ror and his rule book on this one lol
I deleted my rule book copy. Taking up way too much space on my hard drive and crowding out the porn. Oh wait, the rule book IS porn. I can simplify this whole engine penalty thing. Let the teams use as many PUs as they please within the cost cap. The minute they exceed the cap for ANY reason they pay the other nine teams $5m each and the teams get to add that money to their cost cap.. That's the only way Gene Haas is going to make any money in the sport.
And there types the voice of reason, obviously not the engine but but the other lol
Oh and slight typo above "I am not a Hamilton fan"
It is always highly amusing and provides great entertainment to come and read some of the extremely biased, completely misguided and erroneous comments made by some of our arm chair critics!
Especially when they have either completely orange eyes or red, white and blue eyes in the form of a union jack! Good for a long laugh!
Easy for you to say. I'm a relatively good driver
sushil are you representing the great great british racing drivers club here great britain inc falklands girbralter and pitcairn
Hamilton did enquire as to Vercrashens health at Silverstone. By contrast Vercrashen just walked away without even a glance in Hamilton's direction. He should be ashamed.
Well well well. Just had the dubious pleasure of reading the comments from the 'armchair' racers about Mr Verstappen & Sir Hamilton at Turn i/2. Do any of you who have offered up opinions about Mr Herberts & Mr Hills thoughts on the subject think that their opinion might have a little bit more validity than the 'armchair sperts' as they have both donr the business with fairly spectacular results. Pure & simple, Lewis is an exceptionally CLEAN Racer, look at his record over his nearly 15 seasons. Not sure how you could say the same about Max & his over aggressive style of racing. Not 'World Championship' winning methodology I'm afraid even if he manages to win it. The defining moment for me was him walking past Lewis without checking up on him regardless of Lewis, adrenaline fuelled trying to reverse away from under the Red Bull. Apalling!!!!!!
Well well well Brian.. clean racer Hamilton?? Check out the points on his licence compared to this aggressive 'monster' verstappen..also when u get out of ur car and clearly can see the other driver, who previously took u out in Silverstone, reversing out from under ur car, its fair to say there isn't much wrong with him..Russell can go over to bottas and take a swipe at him after he causes an accident, and bottas is clearly winded..but nobody gets up in arms over that, but every move verstappen makes is over analysed..can't wait for Hamilton to retire!!
completely agree with your comments JJ mercedes sky F1 44 conspiracy confirmed again
JJ75 good points well made imo
The Hamilton lovelies will be saying next that when one boxer knocks another one out , he should rush over to him and help him up ffs, people have used the word Toxic before , well imo , Hamiltons the Toxic one in f1, he will not be missed when he decides to become a film star, or professional dog walker...imo
Wow, what a lot of bitter and twisted people out there, on both sides of the argument!
Takes one to know one. Welcome me old kaffir lime..
But yes, they are aren't they:-)
Good grief! Lol 🍿😳
So sorry for you shroppyfly that you don't recognise Sir Hamilton for being the GOAT that he is as well as his ability to see the bigger picture & the 'Body Politic'. Mind you it does annoy me personally when I see video of him walking around the Paddock being followed by 'Roscoe' or whatever the Dog's name is. I do not see a Racing Paddock as being the place for a Dog & anyway he doesn't seem to be carrying an F1 PASS round his neck unless it's hidden under his neckerchief.
