Nov.9 - Fernando Alonso thinks it is much easier for a British driver to win a world championship after a close head-to-head duel.

This year, the two-time champion has made several statements questioning the impartiality of those in charge of Formula 1, including the stewards.

He now says a British driver like Lewis Hamilton - his former teammate at McLaren - is given an easier ride to the title than a foreigner like Max Verstappen.

"This season, you can see that the British machine is running again," Alonso charged.

"Max is handling it very well. It's a very interesting championship, also off the track."

The 40-year-old Spaniard illustrates his point by comparing the two major collisions between Hamilton and Verstappen in 2021 - the ones at Silverstone and Monza.

"Look at those two incidents," Alonso said. "In my opinion, they are not treated equally.

"After Silverstone, Red Bull stepped in but other than that it was all pretty calm," he added, referring to Verstappen's brief hospitalisation following contact with Hamilton's Mercedes at high-speed Copse corner.

"There was a lot more talk after the Monza crash," said Alonso, this time referencing the low-speed chicane clash, in which the Red Bull's rear wheel made contact with Hamilton's head.

"Max even got a penalty for the next race," he added. "I don't think anyone understood that.

"But that's part of the pressure you get from certain quarters."

From his perspective, however, Alonso insisted that he admires and respects both of the 2021 world championship protagonists.

"They are at their highest level every weekend," he said. "Whether it is wet, dry, windy."

Statistics show that British drivers are indeed the most successful. Out of the 71 F1 seasons driven up till today, the British drivers won 20 times (28%). Ten different British drivers have won a championship.

10 different drivers out of 71 means that British drivers have a better chance at winning the WDC? Seriously. Alonso doing some stirring as usual. Are the Stewards all British; is Domenicali British; Why did he come back into F1 if he thinks it's all fixed. Utter nonsense he's spouting

I guess Hammer never got the memo during his earlier years when he got penalties to the high heavens. Lol. Could Brit drivers on average just commit less egregious infringements and drive cleaner? Coulthard? Button?
A "Has Been" with sour grapes about Lewis = Alonso. Nothing more.

British drivers DO have an advantage. It's called massive availability for training, dedication to the sport and heritage. Hey, what are you going to do in GB? Kick a ball around on a pitch or drive racing cars, mostly open-wheeled so that Brits know which way they're headed. Before you get your knickers in a knot, that's a joke.

Winning 7 world championships is easy, winning 8 is amazing, but we brits have done it already, so Lewis is wasting his time--I give you, John Surtees.
So forget all the bull about schumi and hamster moving onto 2 wheels, been there done that

Ok 7 were on 2 wheels but even so, and whilst we are throwing out names , the one world champion who did more for the safety and improvement to the sport than any other .

Thx for the JYS reference. Best quote ever other than "Racing is life, everything else is just waiting", was from Sir Jackie, "Drive just fast enough to win". Great mind, and still going full chat.
