I'm not unhappy about Hamilton losing the WDC.
I'm only unhappy about how this happened, which was through 3rd-party assistance & that 3rd-party happens to be the governing body out of all.

Toto hasn't just embarresed himself AND Mercedes but more importantly he's put F1 into disrepute. Taking a solicitor to a sporting event is like bringing a nuke to a christening!

All this is so disappointing. Bringing a lawyer to a race is beyond the pale. All this back and forth, name calling, finger pointing is an embarrassment to this sport. I’m afraid men acting like children will kill this sport. Shame on both sides.

The only fair thing Masi could have done was to red flag the race, let both drivers have fresh rubber on and let them fight for the last 3-4 laps…
Then we would have a real world champion.

An absolute shambles. How is Micheal Massi allowed to decide to ignore the rule book in order to make for a "thrilling last lap"? Why bother having any rules? Lewis Hamilton was intentionally robbed by that decision. Hope Max feeling embarrassed at the blatant manipulation in his favour, no glory in this win for him. Massi need to go as do I. I have lost all faith in the fairness of F1 and will not watch again after being an avid fan for 30+ years. Red Bull must indeed have promised Massi a spectacular bung.

" Why bother having any rules" was exactly what I was thinking the last race, and many other times this season. Every decision made so far was in favour of mercedes and Lewis. Had Hamilton won this title it would also be a gift from the stewards. I understand the frustration for Hamilton fans, but Max is world champion and he deserves it! Yes he was lucky(finaly!) in this race. Hamilton was the better driver today, but mercedes just made 2 big mistakes during the virtual sc and sc situations. Be a real sport, and accept it!

Yes, let's end the race under caution....wow how exciting is that?
Mercedes had plenty of chances to pit and didn't. Their strategy was a bit off today. The race director acted within his powers of authority....Michael didn't dictate the winner....strategy, accidents, all played a part.

Well what a fortuitous turn of events for RB. Max got the luckiest of last minute breaks. I guarantee this tho. Toto is pissed and next year is gonna be gloves off brutal with that new car.
Classy on the Sir Lewis's part; good on him. Unlike Max in Jeddah! Forward 2022.

When Lewis was interviewed by Button post race, , when asked about 2022, all Lewis would say was Well see.... his uncertainty was picked up by respected pundit Mark W, on C4, who basically was saying does it sound like Lewis is up for it ?

I'm betting post xmas there will be an announcement, cleverly scripted to say hes achieved all he set out to do blah blah

Post race Masi said he wanted a race. Here's the plan Michael. Red flag immediately after crash. It was warranted. Due to arcane F1 rules, everybody could have bolted on fresh red tires and had a 5 lap go. Is that too complicated?

With blood dripping from the kid's mouth he still might have won, and everybody goes home without a bad taste.

Well well, let’s be honest folks, that was Lewis’s race, he did everything right and should have won if not for a cruel twist of luck. Lewis fans will complain forever that he did everything right, didn’t put a foot wrong and got screwed over by the FIA etc but I counter with the fact that neither did Max. All he did was drive his own race so you cant blame any of what happened on him today!

Looking back even if we forget the cruel luck that Max had at Silverstone, Hungary and Baku, lets not forget how Lewis managed to finish second despite going off the track and hitting the wall in Imola. Safety car saved his ass for sure that day but hey, all those 4 incidents are just racing right…. Then if we take his poor showing in Monaco and the wrong strategy call in Turkey…

Its my opinion Max has been the faster but unluckier driver overall this year and that’s why I think he deserves the championship more. Anybody who wants to dispute that is simply blinded by Lewis’s brilliance.

Fully appreciate I will get the full wrath of the Hamilton army now but i will say this. Max may have won the championship but he still has some way to go before he can be considered on Lewis’s overall level.

Hamilton is one of the best ever... but not so much with pressure of championship on line. 2007 China, enough said. 2016 went to the last race, a solid second place. To Hamilton's credit, there was 2008 Brazil, where Vettel blew by him in a vastly inferior car, temporarily choking away the championship. But to his credit, Hamilton managed to pass the mighty Timo Glock, who was practically parked on the track.

I think too , Toto was so angry with what happened because he already knows Lewis would retire if he didn't win the wdc today, pre race he was so confident , but post race interviews with the media did he do any?

With comments like, well if we don't win today its not the end of the world, an appeal after having your complaints dismissed, er sounds a bit like very sour grapes, and as we know fia appeals rarely overturn decisions, just my opinion

The marketing possibilities of Hammy with 8 titles would have been massive, but it aint happening unfortunately, now hell be remembered for just being as good or winning as much as MS, which weirdly could damage his image 2021 hasn't been a good yr after losing his trademark case in the court, his extremely compliant team mate, and now losing the WDC, all he has left is his Extreme e team currently 2nd in standings with one round left .

Oh Jesus smh. Super Fly you myopic soul. Have you seen celebrity social media. Lewis is a darling at this point. What's better for marketing than the belief he was robbed(according to them) of his well deserved title. Max is viewed as a damn near cretin by them. And that podium behavior in Jeddah did him no favors. It's like Manna from Heaven in terms of marketing for Lewis. Perception of the circumstances matter. Be it flawed or not.

Let me try and poor cold water on Lewis retirement wishful thinking.

1st: The best thing F1 did for Lewis is to change the chassis for 2022. He relishes the opportunity for a new challenge. Plus he now has the added incentive to make it difficult for Max. The longer he stays the lesser the chance Max breaks his records.
2nd: Even if Lewis entertained the thought of leaving, Toto won't have it, and all he has to do is say, "Do you really want to be compared with Nico". Boom....hook, line and sinker!
Lastly: Toto wants revenge. And Lewis is his best chance to serve it extra cold. The Constructor's title is not enough, and he's going to move mount Everest if necessary to keep Lewis happy. Even if he has to sweeten the pot of Lewis's coffers. Title money plus negotiating with the bosses at Merc plus sponsorship deals. Rake it in.
If Angella is Lewis's right hand, Toto will be his left! He's not going anywhere.
I shouldn't have to spell this out but Haters are so desperate for him to leave they conjure up nonsense from nothing. Lol smh

1 Max doesnt waste his time thinking about records .hes having fun

2 He wont be compared to Nico, hell be compared to MS

3 What toto wants are strong motivated drivers, not money grabbing ex wdc ala piquet.

4 Actually its better if Angela and Toto control his hands, they might do a better job of driving

5 Still on the Hater trail, boringgg, give up something new Jax

To all you Mercedes and Hamilton fans.
Would have been a complete injustice if Max didn't win it. Knocked off the track by Hamilton at Silverstone, Bottas took him out , Hamilton allowed to drive off the track and keep the lead.
Max well and truly deserved it.
Justice that he won it. Alonso agreed.

Max outfoxed Lewis to win the finale!
I am certainly not a Max Verstappen fan, however, he certainly overcame Lewis Hamilton and deserved the title this year.
I only hope that Max's style of driving does not herald the start of a NASCAR style of F1 racing, where bash and barge take precedence.

My take from Los Angeles - last race Masi and the stewards put their thumbs on the scale to favor Lewis several times. Max was told to give the place back when he'd made the pass and both he and Baby Lewie had gone off track. And he did, tho' Baby Lewie ran into his rear. And he got a 5 sec time penalty. So today on lap 1 Max makes a clean move, takes the turn 6 apex, keeps his car on track, Baby Lewie goes off (at a chicane, gaining maximal advantage!) and on, keeps the lead and isn't told (like Masi told Red Bull TWICE in Saudi fucking Arabia!) to "give the place back or it goes to the stewards" - no, this time, in record time "no investigation" by the fucking biased stewards. So perhaps Masi was trying to make up for all the bad calls in Baby Lewie's favor with the last lap restart and letting the lapped cars in between him and Max for a final lap showdown. Right result, horrible officiating the last two races. Masi and the stewards all deserve the boot!

The Mercedes team used to be quite honourable. Think of their reaction at Le-Mans in 1955. MB need to think long and hard about the public image they are now creating. One of a bitter, rancorous company who cannot accept that perhaps they made mistakes. A part of me hopes that their rabid attempt to overturn results backfired on them commercially. Max was the better driver over the season and deserved not only to be Champion but to be allowed to enjoy that title. Masi, should probably go, but Toto may also be bringing the sport into disrepute. The way he appears to behave is not what I would want to see if I was director of MB.

        Or putting it another way

The stewards ruled that a separate rule gave Masi the power to control the safety car, which "includes its deployment and withdrawal".

So he had the authority to interpret the situation and over rule anything, Masi didn't write the rules....

We should also that assuming Lewis is still in the seat next year, he may well have more problems from George Russell than he’s had from Valtteri, who always seemed to be willing to play second fiddle. I’m not so sure GR will be that biddable. And in the Mercedes, he was embarrassingly quick on his one outing despite not ‘fitting’ the car. Trouble for Lewis could come from within the team as well as from RB and the other players.

Exactly - I predict Russell will be regularly beating Ham from the start of the season next year, Max will repeat as champion (far more easily this time, as Checo contributes even more - possibly securing the constructor's title for Red Bull - and Russell and Hamilton have at least one "Barcelona" between them) and Russell will edge out Ham for second or third in the ch'p and Ham retires at the end of next year.

“They have both been driving on such a consistently high level despite the pressure of the title battle. Max scored a record 18 podiums this year and the only races he didn't finish first or second were when he had incidents (Silverstone, Hungary, Monza) or a tyre failure (Baku)”

Say what you will about Max’s aggressive driving but that is some mega achievement and I think it tells you all you need to know about his abilities in a race car!

It also says a lot that Lewis was able to run him so close!

Rather than us all keep bitching about who is the best, maybe we all just need to take a moment to reflect on these two outstanding drivers and what a season they have both given us.
