'Nothing bad' about last season final race according Alonso
Feb.22 - Fernando Alonso has played down the ongoing drama surrounding the way last year's championship finale played out.
When asked if he agrees that his former nemesis was "robbed" of his eighth title by the ousted Michael Masi's controversial decision, the 40-year-old insisted: "No.
"Everyone has their own opinion but it was a normal race for me," Alonso told RTL.
"Yes, there was this one decision, but nobody can control whether there is a safety car or not."
The FIA has reacted by ousting Australian Masi and implementing other changes like a football-style Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system.
But two-time world champion Alonso says "you can never please everyone".
"It was a big deal because it was the last race of the season," the Alpine driver added.
"But in 20 years something like that happened 200 times. 200 times to me, 200 times to Michael, 200 times to Montoya, 200 times to everyone. If it happens in the third of fifth race, it's no big deal.
"This time it was the last race with two laps to go, but for me? Not a big deal."
However, he doesn't condemn new FIA president Ben Sulayem from reacting.
"The new president needs to make sure everything is in place. He understood that we needed new ideas and I'm happy about that.
"But on Abu Dhabi, maybe I have a different opinion. I don't think anything bad happened there."

Alonso has been straightforward in his comments since entering the sport.
He saw nothing wrong with last year's outcome in the ultimate race. And we must agree and stop falling for the political games Wolff of Mercedes is playing.
I understand Lewis’s fans' disappointment about losing the Worldchampionship. If Lewis had won the title, Red Bull was taken away the title back in Silverstone. That's where it all started to become ugly. Hamilton won that race after being responsible for Max’s accident.
All in all, last year's outcome was fair.
That’s hilarious. I am not a LH fanboy, I’m a Ferrari supporter, and I don’t pick favorite drivers. What Masi did was wrong. Plain and simple. FA has no problem with what happened in the race because he has long felt he was robbed of WDC #3 because of LH favoritism at MCL. What the FIA should do is disallow the results of the race. The points are reset to the previous race, VER still wins the WDC, Merc still gets the WCC, and there is a bit of reshuffling amongst the final standings.
Clearly your not taking into consideration Alonso’s agenda here, which as we all know Alonso always has an agenda. Very very clear what Masi did was wrong, and Alonso knows that as well. Just Fernando doing and saying Fernando things.
Yea cause Alonso has no beef with Lewis.
Of course. The issue is last race shouldn't get different treatment versus rounds 3, 5, whatever as all races deserve equal treatment.
Fernando is a joke! He is sucking and blowing at the same time.
