Charles Leclerc won his 3rd F1 race during the 2022 Bahrain F1 GP today. The Ferrari driver started from pole and won the 18th race on the Bahrain International circuit for the first time. It was the 239th victory for the Ferrari team.
The start of the race was quite hectic. All cars got away clean, Lewis Hamilton gained a place in the Mercedes to P4. On the other hand his former teammate Valtteri Bottas in the Alfa Romeo lost 8 paces. The top 3 kept their grid positions. In the first lap Alpine driver Esteban Ocon collided with the Haas of MIck Schumacher. The Haas driver spun but was able to continue undamaged. Ocon received a 5 sec. penalty for causing a collision.
Hamilton was the first that pitted for new hard tyres. His pitstop took 3.4s. When he got back on track he almost couldn't make turn 1 because of the cold tyres that are only heated up to 70 degrees this season. In lap 15 Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz pitted for a new set op mediums. Charles Leclerc was still leading the race in the Ferrari and had a 10 second lead on Sergio Perez in the Red Bull.
The next lap Leclerc pitted and came out just in front of Verstappen also on a set new set of softs. Verstappen tried to pass Leclerc and on the main straight he overtook the Monegasque driver for the lead. The next straight Leclerc was able to overtook Verstappen back again and the next lap the story was exactly the same and the battle for the lead became epic.
Halfway the race Hamilton already pitted to get rid off the hard tyres as he already was over 25 seconds behind the leaders. He now switched to medium tyres to try and pick up his pace. Russell driving behind him on P6 before the pitstop.
In lap 31 Verstappen pitted for a new set of medium tyres to get by Leclerc. One lap later Leclerc did the same to try to stay in front. It didn't get as close as the first pitstop when Leclerc returned to the track and Verstappen was furious on the radio towards his team, because they probably told him to do an easy out lap. He told his team he could be easily ahead of Leclerc if he didn't had hold back.
Kevin Magnussen was driving around P7 in lap 40 which is an amazing achievement for the team that had to do a last minute change of drivers after Russia attacked Ukraine earlier this month.
In lap 44 both Red Bull drivers did a pitstop. Verstappen switched to soft tyres to try and get the lead. Perez also witched to soft tyres to try and get P3 from Sainz. In lap 46 the safety car drove out because Pierre Gasly's car had caught fire that had to be extinguished. All cars that hadn't pit got a quick free pitstop to pick up a set of soft tyres for the last 10 laps of the race.
At the end of lap 50 the safety car period ended and the race got back on. At the restart Sainz almost passed Verstappen for P2 on the main straight. Schumacher who was on P10 lost his position to Yuki Tsunoda and Fernando Alonso.
In lap 55 Verstappen had to retire the Red Bull and drove to the pit box. in the very last lap Perez had an engine problem and retired in the first corner and gave his podium to Hamilton who finished 3rd.
It was the first 1-2 finish for Ferrari since the 2019 Singapore F1 GP.

Hmhmhmhm....hehehehehe...HAHAHAHAHAHAAA. WOOOOEEEE. The evil laugh unleashed. 😈😂. Karma can be a real BITCH!
Hey RB and Lucky Champ fans, how much did it sting? Just asking for a friend. LMAO. Not one but both out in the dying laps!....ouch Lol.
I warned you snowflakes about yapping about things you don't fully understand. So from now on, just take my advice and shut up about karma. There's more to come!
It may not be a win for Hammer, but a trophy and points on the board are always welcomed. The rest of my forecast still stands.
Go Merc reliability 💪. And big ups to the Demon boys and Ferrari....hell of a day. 👍
Messed up day for Gasly tho. Tough break. Smh
Seriously tho. Can some history buff go into the archives and tell when last did a team lose both drivers on the second to last and final laps respectively. If it has never occurred then this may be some cosmic justice stuff. And what a way to dole out punishment! Sweeeet. Lol
What an ending for RBR. Merc got lucky, but a great start for Ferrari.
Also, about time Leclerc ended his lengthy win drought.
DOTD: K-Mag with honorable mention to Bottas.
A pint to all of them. Good show, but for the RBPT failures the race was mostly a procession.
Just to put the fuel pump fault in Hondas corner, i believe the engines this year are still badged as Honda engines , only in 23 will they have RBPT on the rocker covers, but i wait to be corrected on that
Its like ferrari with a spark plug issue i think, a fuel pump fails, simple bit of kit
Great first 2022 race. The battles after the pit stops for the lead were epic already.
Great to see Mercedes struggling for once. But in a few races that will picture will probably be very different.
Red Bull deserved a lot more, but that will change probably very quickly
Wait....where's everybody? Oh Hater brigade. Snowflake bunnies. Are y'all having a moment with your thoughts? Consoling thy inner sorrows? Where's the newly minted whining mascot Adrian the Roach? Hey Cornball muppets, stop the cuddling and brooding and speak up 😄.
Buck up softies, it's only the first race Lol.
I'll stand in for them Jax
Why doesn't Hambone wear clothes from an ordinary menswear store.
And also - get a proper haircut, a number 12 would suit him
Proper diss, Ian, and notice we saw nothing of Blondie. Secret confession, iif not for his hair, tat's and attire I would probably still be a HAM-Lfan. I suppose that's more on me than the knight. The explanation is in my screen name. :)
I knew that.
I was remembering the calls of 'geda haircut' from my long haired youth
I'm still cool tho :-)
Oh goody.
Ahh the useless personal attacks that has nothing to do with his Legend status. Keep at it tho.
🍿😎
What's it like living up shamiltons hole you clown
I wouldn't know. What's it like being an ingorant reprobate such as yourself folly Golly? 😂
Hey Lucky Champ fans, check out these priceless quotes of the day. Enjoy 😈:
Verstappen: "OK this is now two times that I take it easy on the out-lap, that I could have been in front.
"I am never, ever doing it again!"
Verstappen: "Mate, my steering wheel is suddenly very heavy..."
Verstappen: "I almost can't steer."
Lambiase: "Let me know if we need to box, Max,"
Verstappen: "No, just f------ tell me what's wrong and I'll try to handle it"
Lambiase: "Max, is the [steering] wheel heavy in both directions, so both left hand and right hand down?"
Verstappen: "Everywhere, everywhere! It's not even smooth. Like I have to *censored by F1* even on the straight"
Lambiase: "We are staying out. We don't believe it is a reliability concern at this stage".
Verstappen: "Yeah... it's more and more difficult to steer with speed"
Verstappen: "Mate, what's going on with the battery?"
Lambiase: "Battery fine".
Verstappen: "No, it's not! What the f--- is this
Verstappen: "It's s------ itself!"
Lambiase: "We can see the issue, Max. It's not battery related"
Verstappen: "What do you want me to do?"
Lambiase: "There's not a lot we can do".
My personal favorite..."It's shit itself" 😂. The car apparently shit itself.
I christen this race....Poetic Justice. Tsk tsk tsk bad omens for the RB season. Lol
Sadly in an effort to reach equity, they turned F1 racing into Nascar. Like a lot of strong men running with weight belts seeing who makes it to the end.
I loved F1, the practices, qualifying, and then the race. Open wheel, quick, fast, and dangerous. Only the best of the best can compete at that level.
Now the cars race in order of car performance like an Indy car train. They never will remove it, but the front wheel fin destroys the sightline, finding the apex while bouncing, braking, shifting, and pushing it. Watching how the driver fought for, and lined up his approach as the curb flew by. I know they help areo, but we lost something. How long until they put a cabin around the driver like Indy???
I lived for every minute last year, the races inside the races. They leveled off so much, once the teams dial it in, it will be more Nascar. Great sport, but not F1.
We need more DRS not less. Manageable turbulence (like last year) that challenged the drivers, equal for all, unpredictable, yet exciting. More bursts of speed that can equalize the performance. Maybe 3 levels of DRS, P1 to P10- level 1, minimal but impacting, P11 to P15 level 2 less drag- the rest level 3... Let's all race. Respectfully, I feel I watched the first step towards mediocrity for F1 in Bahrain today.
Bit of a Gp2 moment for Rb today , those crazy Japanese engineers have obv been on the saki to much, bodes well for a great season, I hope K MAG on a bonus for points scored , and well done VB , now i wonder what the engine issues were?
Not a word about Sir, are you unwell?
Sir who?
That’s the spirit, you’l soon be better.
Well if isn't our friendly neighborhood insect Super Fly. How are you coping my six legged pal? Oh, and the engines issue appear to be Karma Gremlins. Lol
"Sir who?" Lol smh classic muppet Fly
F1 again confirms that the driver is largely irrelevant. It's all about the equipment. It always has been. Which is why I'm amazed that people continue to argue about drivers when they largely don't matter. The series is a constructor's exhibition and the drivers are interchangeable.
F1 is what it is. What it isn't is head-to-head competition for drivers, except for perhaps within the teams, themselves.
Emm so why aren't you driving for free then? Only the clueless think the drivers are irrelevant.
History obviously isn't one of your strong points f1a, cast your mind back to 92+93 if you can that is where the williams car was head and shoulders above everyone else's. not my words the numbers say it , so yeah drivers are irrelevant when the car is THAT good ala Williams 92+93 and the Hybrid mercs 14-21
Disagree? course you do lol
There ya' go again, talking sense to the Hamboys. You know better. To point, irrelevance is too strong. Drivers are still 20-30% of the equation and the richest teams can afford to maximize that 20-30% and so they spend gobs of $$$ on the hot name of the day. There are some very talented pilots in F1 ,but if you put the fastest driver in the slowest car he is not going to win. A mediocre driver in the best car will do well. An excellent driver in the best car will dominate. So, now we have a fresh start and a bit of car equality and we should see better racing.
BTW, did you see that the Curly Gang tried to blow the win by not covering the RB tire change just before the caution flag? The safety car allowing a free tire swap bailed them out.
Agreed, remarkably , only one little spin around too, no accidents to speak of, this weekend might be a few bumps and offs though, and talking about fuel pumps, if you can get your head around tender docs, pre selected suppliers etc etc blah blah, it turns out that one firm Magneti Mareli ( Italian originally, hq still in Italy) do one pump and Bosch (ahem..GERMAN ) do the other, say no more, say no more
No Doubt the Doc or Horny will be whinging that its Fixed or Manipulated soon,
I,m disallusioned stroppy old racer. That must mean that Schumaker, Senna, Prost et al were actually just as crap as Sir.
Blo, there was a time when the driver was far more of the winning equation. BTW, nobody has ever accused HAM-L of being a 'crap' driver.
If you're not British or your name can't alternatively be pronounced with a French accent, then you'll be shown utter contempt (live) on air by the woke Brits in the booth and pits. This has been going on for years. Now in 2022 we're sucking up to the CCP. Not smart.
It's time for a change in the broadcast rights and teams.
Example please? Mazesaspin, Stroll ?
Chuffed to bits ferrari won, kept quiet working hard on this year's car Leclerc winning Carlos second place twn extremely talented drivers, max had his hands full trying to pass Charles Hamilton should forget about his vendetta with max & RB & concentrate on ferrari. Did anyone notice how awkward & out of place sir Lulu looked on the podium when congratulating C. Leclerc like he didn't really want to do it but thought he had better o it to show his Fans what a lovely guy he is. Keep it up Ferrari, leclerc & Carlos turn a blind eye to mercedes we're routing for you.
Yes i did, i thought it looked odd at the time, couldn't work out why
Did anyone notice how awkward & out of place sir Lulu looked on the podium when congratulating C. Leclerc like he didn't really want to do it but thought he had better o it to show his Fans what a lovely guy he is.
Hey Stroppo you must be delighted, you’ve got a new spoilt, aggressive, cocky whiner of a pseudo champ in the young pretender to rant on about. Though it can’t have been down to his car because they lost.
Still new undisputed world champion whiner. See the inestimable Jax above.
Go for him Stroppo, do your worst, he DESERVES it.
What happened to the steering problems the young pretender was whineing about so prolifically? Don’t remember a stuttering engine due to fuel starvation and did Cheka realise young Max had already gone in for his tea when he spun.
My diction must be suspect at times, but Bloflyjaxes spelling is atrocious.
Sorry but I don’t give a shit, i’m A Blowfly after all.
Did anyone notice how carefully the young pretender drove, terrified of getting more points on his licence . Now with a dnf, more points and it’s practically game over if he gets a ban. Expect to see him on his best behaviour, though that naughty Lulu will do his best to wind him up if he can get close enough.
