Mar.22 - It could be "the summer break" - or even longer - before Mercedes manage to solve the problems that will keep the reigning champions behind Ferrari and Red Bull in 2022.

The Brackley based team is suffering from two obvious problems so far in the new rules era - excessive 'porpoising' on top of notably lacking top speed.

Toto Wolff denies Ferrari has simply raced ahead in the engine department.

"I don't think there is a significant difference between the power units of the different manufacturers, although Ferrari's progress is obvious," he said.

The team boss also said engineers will "take a chainsaw" to the 2022 car's rear wing before this weekend's Saudi Arabian GP to tackle drag.

According to George Russell, however, the biggest problem is the porpoising caused by the new ground effect cars.

"It's promising to see that other cars have had the same issue and they managed to solve it which means there is a solution there," Russell said.

"But we are struggling to find it. It would have been brilliant if we solved it in testing where we had so much running, but we truly just don't know how long it will take."

Lewis Hamilton's new teammate said he has no idea if a solution will be found "next weekend or after the summer break".

"We hope it will be as soon as possible," said the 24-year-old, "but there is no reason why it may not continue the whole year."

Bad news for Merc & especially HAM's record-breaking WDC #8 chance if their porpoising issue continues throughout the season.

I got a feeling in my bones that Sir Lulu maybe showing signs of "panic" he's trying so hard to get 21s world title turned around so that he is made 8times w. champ but max has been assured that its his. Sir Lulu is getting older now and realisis that last year was hard for him and probably now thinking this years going to be harder. He's not a happy chappie unless he is winning.

Glad to know that you personally know him and that you can come on this forum to tell us his frame of mind. I really appreciate it, NOT. Haters going to hate, it's ingrained from birth.
And I really do hope potty mouth Vercrashen thinks he has it in the bag. He is going to be in for a real rude awakening, and HE definitely won't be happy.

Easy, Max the young racer whose got it all ahead of him, or LaLa Ham-stier, whose going to his arse whipped again this year and limp off to Hollywood ( I really hope not).

We've got 'em jacked up now Shrop'. Now we've got an engineer MBA, a California lawyer, a taxi driver, a whiny mudslinger and assorted Hamfans. Just think, we've got 8 more months to poke these guys. Fun stuff. They just don't get facts, data, superior knowledge and sarcasm. Oh well.....

Ha-ha. I guess I must have been sleep when they were discussing that in Engineering school and during my MBA program.

Doubt it will take 1/2 a season for hundreds of engineers to figure out a porposing problem that everyone solved in 2 weeks...

    MB sandbagging now.

I bet its solved in 3 weeks (some improvement this weekend though).

Dos’nt even take an engineer to make a simple pressure relief flap, my old lawn mower had one.

My Blofly nose smells politicks. Remember the arch cheat is back having been banned for life and then absolved by a tin pot Italian court, must mean its Ferraris turn this year. Pay back time!!

RB we forgot to put enough petrol in.
You can see why MV dos’nt want to be on the soap, can’t remember his lines, “tell me what to do,please, please, please and did you see the way he tiptoed round the Ferraris.
MB oh dear we forgot how to design F1 cars
For horay we remembered how to design F1 cars
    Never mind, great for tv.

Blo, you have just effectively recapped the first month of the season. Re Flav', what is "ambassador in charge of developing commercial collaborations"? Guy in charge of bribes? That fits his history.

      • Blofly

Hmm Toto says the prancing horse engines are almost the same as MB.
Except maybe for a tiny shave of the cylinder head and a slight over bore. Ask me how how I know ,no don’t, and no one is going to take the Prancing Horse engines apart to find out, to much to lose.
For those to young to remember, Ferrari had the last race of the world sports car champs cancelled to avoid being beaten by the crude but effective Shelby Cobras in the sixties.
Ford could’nt help cheating at Le Mans even when they did’nt need to.
It’s all about power and control but not on the track. Just like Putin.

        • ReallyOldRacer

You, sir, are on a roll. I don't always agree with your comments, but they always make sense. To wit, the Cobras were not crude. Well, OK, maybe they were but they were really cool See how that works? :)

          • Blofly

Aah you’re too kind but don’t get me started on cobra’s I am a cobra fanatic. Find the Goodwood revival on utube and watch Jensen Button in a cobra.

Sad to say, few sporting endeavours are untouched by corruption any more. That’s life I suppose.

  4. Donalf

Don't be surprised if Sir Lulu arrives in AD dressed as superman as he has supposedly used the force to take out perez. You gotta laugh, you just gotta. Lol.

Not often that I am the voice of reason, but it is time for me to step in. Your criticism of the knight's attire is harsh and rude, HAM-L GhettoWear is the future of haute couture and will be the new standard on red carpets worldwide. My contacts tell me that HAM-L has leased 10000 sq ft on Rodeo Drive to locate their flagship retail outlet. Their motto: "Cool is not just for the ghetto".

I am but the grasshopper learning from the dosho called shroppyfly. Now, on to the race. My guess, VER with a strong race, red cars challenge, MB off the podium and MSC first F1 points.

          • shroppyfly

Wouldn't disagree on that, Mercs are nowhere...!!!, that should bring the luluettes out from under LaLas Tutu.

Ah Dosho, a particular favourite of mine, the Monk with the kettle, which i've actually lent to the Doc for this weekend .

I think you are all very cruel to Sir. Just because he is in touch with his feminine side dos’nt make him a bad person and I am sure a few million more from his clothing empire will always come in handy for good causes.
Whereas an infatuation with a small delicate man and women’s clothing always reminds me of the lumberjack song and gives me a wry smirk.Go beat your chests and play with your bananas you bunch of gorillas.
