Apr.7 - Nikita Mazepin says he is a victim of "cancel culture".

The son of Russian oligarch Dmitry, whose fertiliser company Uralkali was Haas' main sponsor, was recently ousted by the small American F1 team amid widespread sanctions against Russian interests.

European sanctions said Mazepin snr is a "member of the closest circle of Vladimir Putin", with 23-year-old Nikita "associated" with those providing "revenue" to the Russian government.

Nikita Mazepin told the BBC he is a victim of "cancel culture against my country".

"I don't agree with being in the sanctions," he said. "I've said before I agree to fight it.

"Perhaps now is not the right time but if you look at the whole situation that is happening against athletes in the general case, it's cancel culture against my country."

Top Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev is now facing a ban from competing at Wimbledon this year as he has so far refused to explicitly denounce Putin.

When asked for his perspective about the Ukraine war, Mazepin said: "I live in the same world as you but it's very painful to watch that (war) on many levels.

"My feelings, they obviously changed as a human being and as a person that wants to live in a peaceful world. But I will be honest with you, I just see tremendous risks in saying anything at all about this case because I will never satisfy everyone.

"Therefore I will keep myself publicly quiet."

    "cancel culture"
Just like Daddy’s mate Putin is trying to do to Ukraine 🇺🇦
Don’t forget to let everyone know when your going to the front, I suspect there will be a surge in foreign fighters if you do.

Yes, Mazespin, and it is well deserved. Now go off and grope some girls on dad's yacht. You are now an asterisk in F1 history.

Nikita, welcome to the real world. You, obviously have been sheltered and pampered from reality. Your are a victim of a ruthless government., which your father is a part of. You now need to see that actions have consequences, no matter how much money your father has and the country you are apart of. The FIA would be overwhelming criticized if they continued to race at Sochi with the atrocities and the blatant disregard for international law happening in Ukraine. Some things are just bigger than your need to drive a fast car. Reality is a bitch

Susan. something niggles at the back of my brain telling me that the young man is no 'victim', rather that he shares cloth from his father's suit. The apple and the tree deal. Anyway, let's go watch the Aussies put on a show. Been a while.

Nikita, you are a victim of an overly indulgent father with too much money. Your reality is so eschewed from what is happening now between your country and Ukraine. You are a victim of a system of government that feels they can overthrow a legitimate country and commit atrocities at will. You’re right, you are a victim of a culture that should be canceled if you think your “right” to drive a fast car over the needs of innocent men, women and children. The FIA had every right to cancel the Sochi GP. Russia is now a pariah on the international stage.

    Litvinenko and Salisbury poisonings

    Putin has been busy....!

And still Germany buys 55% of the gas it needs from Russia

And Europe as a whole buys 40% of the gas it needs from Russia,
An interesting fact since the Ukr invasion Europe has paid 2 Billion euros for Russian fuel, but the value of all the
Military assistance to Ukr 1 Billion euros .

i think mazepin is a useless driver and is most likely a useless person in general

and i'm really glad to see kmag back as he's one of my favorite drivers

but it's really stupid to punish a citizen of a particular country for their countries government actions

what about americas war in the middle east? well they're going to have 3 races next year

chinas gp is back despite developing and releasing covid

what about all those german car companies?

    ceasars italy? napoleons france?

be careful when drawing lines in the sand because one day you'll find yourself on the wrong side

There’s a bit of a difference comparing Caesars, Napoleon and German car companies to what the world is watching now. . First of all F1 racing wasn’t around in the good olds of Caesars, Napoleon and WWII. Russia blatantly disregarded international law by invading a sovereign nation and brutally killing men, women and children. You are absolutely right, history is filled with war and atrocities but the FIA doesn’t have to support Russia by having a race there.

it's naive to think they're that dissimilar but i'm not looking to argue and i'm certainly not advocating war - i was just pointing out the hypocrisy

afterall the saudis get a pass

in any case my main point was about mazepin

as i said before - i'm glad he's gone and kmags back but lets say your country invaded another - should you loose your job?

Has anyone seen the first "John Wick" movie? Nikita reminds me of Iosef, the spoiled brat of the Russian crime-lord. Fits him to a "T".

His corrupt Russian billionaire father (is there any other kind?) deserves to get his assets frozen and yacht seized.

As far as Nikita Mazepin is concerned - he's a shit driver, and I'm glad he's gone.

    Adios MoFo !!

Oh, what a cynic you are. Turn that frown upside-down!

So in response to your Statements:

        Yes and yes
        No
Not yet (but here's hoping) and - I don't watch the news.

        Lub-U, man!!
