Nyck de Vries Biography
Before Nyck de Vries became an F1 driver the Dutchman won almost every racing championship he competed in. He won the following championships:
- 2008 German Karting Junior Championship
- 2009 German Karting Junior Championship

- 2010 CIK-FIA Karting World Championship — SKF
- 2011 CIK-FIA Karting World Championship — KF1
- 2014 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0

- 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship
- 2020 Formula E
In 2020 he was contracted by the Mercedes AMG F1 Team to be their reserve driver and drove a full season of 15 races in Formula E with Mercedes that debuted in the full electric series.. That season De Vries also drove three races in the European Le Mans Series, won one race, scored two podiums in total and became 5th.
The next year in 2021 he still was reserve driver for Mercedes and competed in Formula E to win the drivers' title with Mercedes. He also drove 5 races in the European Le Mans Series and ended up 5th again.
Breakthrough in F1

2022 was the year Nyck de Vries got his chance to impress the F1 paddock with his fantastic driving talent. By being already 27 years of age, he was considered old in terms of today's F1 grid. His fellow countryman Max Verstappen had his debut when he was 10 years younger at the age of 17! Nevertheless De Vries first was asked by Williams Racing to drive the FW44 in first practice before the Spanish Grand Prix in May 2022. De Vries knew he was going to compete his 'teammate' Nicholas Latifi and managed to be 0.1s quicker than his rival who had been driving the FW44 already 10 times longer than he.
After that he got his chance to drive the Mercedes W13 of Lewis Hamilton at Paul Ricard in FP1 for the French Grand Prix. He now had to measure his skills with the highly regarded George Russell. His sister Seychelle de Vries has a relation with Russell, so it even became a family matter now to beat his sister's boyfriend. Nyck didn't beat him and was around 0.55 sec slower than Russell, who already had driven 11 GP's with the worst performing Mercedes creation in history. He did beat half the grid by being 9th quickest overall and now was over 1,5 sec. quicker than Latifi in the Williams who was last.
After that his name was swirling around the F1 paddock and got asked by Aston Martin to do a free practice session in Italy to compare him next to Lance Stroll. Italy was was already the 16th race weekend of the 2022 season and De Vries was over a full second slower than Stroll during FP1.

The next day he got the chance of his lifetime because Alex Albon was ill and had to operated on a appendicitis. The Thai/British driver had to stay in hospital to recover and De Vries now had to drive FP3, quali and the GP. In FP3 he was 14th less than 0.1 sec. behind his teammate Latifi. He qualified 13th for the race. But because a lot of drivers received grid penalties two Dutch drivers ended up on row 4 for the first time in F1 history. De Vries started from P8 and drove a great race ended up on a strong P9 and scored two points on his debut.
Later that season he got picked up by Red Bull to drive for their sister team Scuderia AlphaTauri in the 2023 F1 season. He will take the seat of the car that Pierre Gasly left behind. Gasly moved to Alpine to fill the huge shoes of Fernando Alonso, who wanted to give it a try at Aston Martin.
The Dutchman raced in 10 Grands Prix for AlphaTauri in 2023 and failed to score points, with 12th place in Monaco as his best result.
After the British Grand Prix, De Vries was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo.
