Oct.14 - Dr Helmut Marko says it's "nonsense" that Max Verstappen might lose his 2021 world championship over the budget cap scandal.

Red Bull has been found by the FIA to have broken last year's budget limit by less than 5 percent.

"I don't want to say too much," Dr Helmut Marko told f1-insider. "Just that we still believe that we didn't break the cost cap rule at all. Discussions with the FIA are ongoing. Let's see what finally comes out of it."

Red Bull says it's nonsense Verstappen will lose F1 title

Red Bull Racing Team Consultant Dr Helmut Marko

It is clear that top team rivals Mercedes and Ferrari are pushing hard for significant penalties that go beyond a mere fine.

"I believe that looking at the result of a world championship after the battles on the track and the ceremonies and celebrations is difficult," Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto told eurosport.it.

"But what is evident is that spending more money than the others has a performance advantage that remains in subsequent seasons. So we think a better penalty in addition to the financial one must lead to a slowdown in the development of the car.

"Otherwise, the advantage will remain in subsequent years and we will have to fight without equal means. In my opinion, there must be a penalty that sanctions the capacity for development," the Italian added.

Marko, however, says Red Bull is now in negotiations with the FIA about the nature of the penalty.

"As I said, we are still not aware of any guilt, which is why discussions with the FIA are still ongoing," he said.

"But rumours that Max could lose his world title in 2021, for example, are complete nonsense. The past has shown that even extreme violations of the regulations were punished very mildly by the FIA."

It is believed Marko is referring not only to 2013, when Mercedes was found to have carried out secret Pirelli tyre testing, but also Ferrari's light penalty for using an alleged illegal engine in 2019.

And former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher says the FIA must investigate how details of Red Bull's alleged budget cap breach were leaked to rival teams.

"The ladies and gentlemen of the FIA must now face a detailed investigation of how this is even possible," he said.

"If Red Bull has really broken the rules, it should be proportionately punished. But what the FIA did there doesn't work at all.

"Imagine if the ministry of finance kept certain companies up to date with the current status of investigations against their competition. That would even be criminal," the German added.

"Everything must be disclosed transparently, and in the event of an offense the ladies or gentlemen of the FIA must be punished accordingly."

All you HAM fans get over 2021. You are focusing on the last race , over the season MAX had more wins and lead more races. Winning the WDC was karma for HAM taking MAX out at Silverstone.
In overall fairness MAX deserved the title more than HAM.
MAX will show he is better than HAM over the next few years.

Max had more victories only because the FIA gifted him the final race other they would have been tied in victories. Oh what about the gift Max got in SPA?

As Ricky-Bob says: "Second-place, is first-place for losers."

Hmm, let’s see how the Fia wriggles out of the current embarrassment before we get too cocky. Usual solution, find a scapegoat and do nothing, bungs have long gone.
Stroppy is the obvious scapegoat, with unrivalled knowledge he should have warned the Fia or at least got a bung for keeping quiet. Oh

Rich and powerful people are typically very well connected. They establish and nurture relationships with people that can advance their agenda. Previous articles have described in sordid detail the connections in FIA management to Team Principles like Toto or Binotto.

These and other articles have revealed the history of favors both Mercedes and Ferrari have enjoyed as a result of highly placed individuals within the FIA org chart. Many of whom used to work for or manage their teams.

So, in light of the preceding, it comes as no surprise that watching Toto, Bin-bin and their ilk thump the handles of their pitch forks into Horner's front lawn as they chant "Burn him, burn him" is a bit rich.

Go ahead and rabble-rouse there, boys. A word comes to mind that they may well do to remember: Karma.

    I can hardly wait.

Stringent earned-value management systems are available to discretely monitor and track budgeted expenditures on any size project. Having used EVMS in my professional life, staying within a + or - 5% of a budget cap is an incredible achievement. That means all areas had very clearly defined deliverables and extremely tight controls over resources to make deliverables happen. That takes an enormous level of effort to achieve. So, if ANY of the F1 teams can stay within 5% of their budgets, then, my hat is off to them.

The elephant in the room, of course, is the reporting - leaking - of sensitive financial data to one's competitors. That speaks to a level of corruption that destroys credibility and brings down the house of cards.

Who knows what goes on in darkened rooms with the FIA and the privileged others to come up with a plan to help losers regain former domination by any means

FIA is showing very little integrity in their decisions favoring their cohorts

I thought that the Bin man would make a silk purse out of a pig's ear but that is not proving to be the case 🤔

Are there no honest brokers left in the World?

F1 is becoming a joke driven by big money and media shite talk

What about the the extra cost for Red Bull damaged cars caused by Merc cars.
That has to come within the budget.
HAM on Max at Silverstone . MAX and Checo caused by Bottas.
Merc didn't have to deal with that for damage caused by other cars.
Come on you so called F1 journalists ask Wolff those questions.
Wolff has too much to say , just shut up.
HAM claims it would have changed the championship but if Red Bull didn't have to pay for that damage out of their budget they would have had more money to spend on development.
Dammage to your car whether self inflicted or caused by another car should not be within the budget.
Wolff and HAM just shut up. Max won the 2021 WDC deservedly so. Any fair thinking person would accept that not just focusing on the last race. Besides Merc had a chance to pit HAM and they chose not to.
Wolff and HAM sore bleating losers.

Les there are extra costs all round , Lulus wife Blondie claims every season for 27 pairs of trainers she needs to run around after the Wuss, then there's the 57 shovels distributed to the media to remove all Mercs B**ls***e after the pen interviews , and even Sky have extra costs with 113 industrial Vac cleaners used to suck up all crap Torger and his child pump out every race weekend, See its not easy for anyone, except maybe the winners.

Well said Les, I totally agree, more needs to be done on that issue, as whose to say if or if not these racing incidents are a devious way of getting teams to break their cost caps. CH said this to Wolf at the time but was just scoffed at.
