Oct.14 - Vietnam's Formula 1 dream appears to be over.

In 2020, a race in Hanoi was set to go ahead until the outbreak of the pandemic. Now, AFP news agency has published photos of the abandoned circuit which is now commonly used by local cyclists.

After the race was cancelled, city mayor Nguyen Duc Chung was arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison for corruption. A source told AFP: "Without Mr Chung, the future of the race in Hanoi is bleak."

It is believed city authorities have ruled out reviving the Formula 1 race at any time through to 2029, although this has not been confirmed.

Local fans, however, are disappointed with the outcome of the Vietnam GP saga.

"It would have been my first chance to see real drivers, F1 cars, racing teams. I really wanted to feel what it is like to be at a Formula 1 race," said a 23-year-old local.

"It saddens me that this is not happening. I hope it can be organised again in the future."

Sorry waste of time comments,, there's to much going on at the moment to be concerned about broken down race tracks such as,, when the **** are the fia going to tell us the concequences of the minor cost cap breach that RB have been accused of,, its taking to long,, keeping f1 fans waiting this long for a result is totally unnecessary and a disgrace to the Fia,,. Yes f1 is becoming a fashion show all about how much money can be exploited by sky & the American owners well I for one is getting just a little bit p****Ed off with it,,,, THIS IS NOT WHAT WE WANT. 😜

My sources tell me it was a huge fine, So big they had to have a whip round from the engine builders, but now everyone's happy, the Fia even gave them a receipt stating Fine paid in full-£8.37, plus there's another secret agreement ALA Ferrari style that next yr Max will only be allowed to win the championship with 2 races to go making the championship look a bit more even after a last minute intervention from Curly and the Dame .
