The first practice for the 2022 USA F1 Grand Prix had five new names on the timesheet. Four drivers even got their first taste of a Formula 1 car. Robert Shwartzman drove the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. Theo Pourchaire did FP1 in the Alfa Romeo of Valtteri Bottas. Alex Palou was in the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo. Logan Sargeant got his first F1 drive in the Williams of Nicholas Latifi. Brad Pitt was special guest at the paddock this FP1.
Antonio Giovinazzi who lost his F1 seat at Alfa Romeo last season, was given his first taste of the new cars in the Haas of Kevin Magnussen. Unfortunately his return wasn't very successful as Giovinazzi already crashed the VF-22 after zeven minutes of free practice. The Italian driver lost control in the turn 5 in first sector.
The quickest lap time of last years FP1 was a 1:34,874 min driven by Valtteri Bottas with the Mercedes W12.
