Red Bull F1 penalty talks paused after Mateschitz death
Oct.24 - Red Bull and the FIA have reportedly reached an agreement over the penalty for the 2021 budget cap breach - but it won't be revealed for now.
In Austin, team boss Christian Horner had warned that without a positive outcome to talks with F1's governing body, the saga could rage on in an appeals process for many more months.
However, it does appear that a penalty has now been successfully negotiated.
"It was supposed to be announced during the Austin weekend, but out of respect to those mourning Dietrich Mateschitz, they are now going to wait a few days," revealed Auto Motor und Sport correspondent Michael Schmidt.
Red Bull confirmed the delay.
"Due to the death of Mr Mateschitz, all talks with the FIA on the budget cap and further decisions are suspended until further notice," a team spokesman is quoted as saying in German media.
It is believed Red Bull initially rejected the FIA's proposed penalties including a hefty fine and a 25 percent reduction in wind tunnel and CFD time next year.
The new penalty is not yet known but Red Bull indicated that talks will resume "mid-week".
Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher said on Sky Deutschland: "I always advise a little more patience. Let's just wait until the outcome is on the table.
"It's clear that if Red Bull has done something, they deserve to be punished like any other team would. But it should be based on facts, not rumours."

Why not make each of them drink 3 cans of that sugar filled sick they call Red Bull. They'd never cheat again.
Mr. M deserves accolades from not just F1, but sports in general. Everything that I read says he was a pretty cool guy. BUT, his death has absolutely nothing to do with what seems to be a grievous infraction of the sporting reg's. Any FIA negotiation of the punishment with the perpetrator is ridiculous. IF they cheated publish the results of the inquiry and the punishment and be done with it. RB can accept it or appeal it. This crap about putting the overage on the 'catering' line is exactly that...crap. A budget cap relates to the amount of $$$ you spend, not on where you choose to report the expense.
I'm starting to think the FIA can't prove the terrible and dasterdly Red Bull deed, so the're looking for some kind of admission which would release it from showing their wares.
My Grandmama had the same approach, she woud say: I know what you did TP, so you better come clean or your punishment is going to be worse. It worked for a little while only.
Will someone please explain to me WHY, tv presenters, reporters, jolyon palmer only talk about mercedes & their drivers,,, there are 10teams & 20 drivers,, MV is 2times world champion but still they go on about mercedes expecting & hoping every race that sir Lulu will make a comeback, what about all the other drivers what do they get, nothing, only penalties for trying, sir Lulu,, mercedes,, sir Lulu,,, mercedes,, lovely for their supporters but so boring & tedious for fans who support other drivers & teams. "just saying". 😜
Tedious is too soft. I think that Danica Patrick is auditioning for Angela's job or to be the knight's new squeeze. Her gushing over 'Lewis' was embarrassing.
I don't rate DP at all as a commentator, she tries to hard, DC even Brundle make it look easy, because it is when youve the knowledge, its sky uk interviewers.commentators for the uk sky market, god knows how the spanish ones are about Alonso..lol, but yes very tedious indeed but they are tiring of the Girl and her excuses slowly
Danica Patrick is fine, but tedious to listen to. She is a former NASCAR driver that should be commenting on NASCAR. She lacks the knowledge of this sport and basically regurgitates what has either been told to her or what she has read. If they want someone with real expertise, hire Will Buxton. Even DP is swooning over LH. Bad enough with Brundle, Crofty and these rest on Sky sports.
Double clap for Buxton. He did onsite pit reporting for NBC when they did F1 remote coverage from a basement, and was outstanding.
