Oscar Piastri entered Formula 1 amid high expectations, and it seems he has the potential to rise to the challenge. In just three consecutive years, he clinched championships in Formula Renault, Formula 3, and Formula 2. However, after his F2 win, there was no room on the grid for the 2022 F1 season, forcing Piastri to take a year-long break from racing. Now, his opportunity has come as McLaren offers him the chance to prove himself in the big leagues, with hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow Australians Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo.

In our embedded podcast above, Piastri chats with Tom Clarkson about his early departure from home and how his motorsport career began with remote control racing. While last season's fierce competition for Piastri's signature between McLaren and Alpine is in the past, he now faces more scrutiny than most F1 debutants. Nonetheless, alongside Lando Norris, Piastri remains confident in restoring McLaren's glory days.
