Jul.25 - Sebastian Vettel's environmental stance may thwart his return to Formula 1 in a Red Bull role.

That is the warning of the quadruple world champion's former Red Bull boss Dr Helmut Marko, amid rumours Vettel could soon return from retirement with a role either at Red Bull or in a sustainability portfolio at F1.

"I don't know if Sebastian will return," Speed Week quotes Marko, 80, as having said in Hungary.

"He has to find himself first. And he also has to admit that there will always be combustion engines in Formula 1.

"Trees grow in the forest, which is a good thing. That's where I differ from him, because I enjoy practicing forest management in my forest," he added, after Vettel recently warned that F1 risks extinction due to carbon emissions.

Marko was also asked about Red Bull's impressive and record-busting dominance this year, and said one of the key reasons has been the weakness of the team's rivals.

"Ferrari and Mercedes have not lived up to expectations," he said.

"Going from 2022 to 2023, they initially did more regression than progression. And because there was no consistency with the competition, we have such a big lead in the championship."

Been a F1 fan for awhile new to this column. I'll start with I never liked "Finger Boy", but I have a good deal of respect for Herr S. Vettel. The man has paid his dues from the pinnacles to the dark places, and if he still want's to be part of F1 then I say offer him the Racing Directors position. Think about it, he's totally knowledgeable of F1, and not only the rules but why the rules were put there in the first place. I don't think anybody can challenge his integrity or honesty. He knows how to say NO to a Team Leader without throwing him into a raving spittle-spewing rant. Just my personal opinion but I'd feel better about F1 with him in that position. RIP Charlie, this sport has seriously missed you.

So I am Seb fan have been since 2011 I agree with you possibly in that position I want Seb back driver but if not he would be perfect in F1 we all want V8s back I feel Seb would be great help with designing regs that help for the future maybe not 2026 but F1 wants Carbon Neutral by 2030 Seb so passionate about Sustainable fuels Seb could help F1 and bring back V8s with synthetic fuels and smaller Cars he is very smart would be good
