Nov.7 - Formula 1 drivers are not oblivious to the precarious global situation, George Russell insists.

While a major exception was the social justice movement of a few years ago and even covid-19 and the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the drivers have been largely quiet about more recent global goings-on - like the new conflict in Gaza and Israel.

Gaetan Vigneron, a correspondent for F1's Belgian broadcaster RTBF, asked Mercedes driver Russell if he - for one - is still keeping up with current events or whether his full focus is now exclusively on his day job.

"I read the news and I see what's happening in the world," the 25-year-old Briton said.

"Obviously we live in a bubble in F1 and it's clearly the most important thing in our lives," added Russell, a senior director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association.

"It's only when we take some time to look around that we see what's happening around the world."

And it's not war that is front of mind for Russell, but something that he sees as even closer to home - poverty.

"There is so much poverty in the world," he lamented. "When I was in the US recently I saw so many homeless people. It was terrible to see.

"Sometimes I wonder why we don't do more for them."

George needs to concentrate on racing. Homelessness to a complicated issue that isn’t quickly remedied. Mental illness and drug use in particular. Liberal policies didn’t help either. But all this is for another day.

Ohhh, NNNOOOOOO. Not Boi George too? Is he falling under the unhealthy influence of the OTHER driver at Mercedes? Will self-absorbed, worldly-angst / navel-gazing become his off-track obsession? Will he jet around the world in his Gulfstream, railing against poverty and homelessness? I'd far rather he'd blast around in some gas-guzzling exotic sportscar showing us just how much fun you can have when you are young and stinking rich. Be irresponsible. Be offensive. Make people gnash their teeth. The poverty-stricken and homeless may actually be inspired to strive to be like THAT you. And not some mewling soi-boi withering under the glares of the unwashed.

I really hope KG hasnt been listening to Lucy too much, and is sounding off like this to distract from the cars very poor showing, i wouldn't think he would fall for this sort of misdirection although i am concerned about the now very common place of Bradley lord at Christians side , hearing him being interviewed , hes very slick and knows exactly the right thing to say, heh thats his job --attending to the media/fobbing them off etc etc, my guess is theres more influence there than wed think

    • george...how ironic eh

must be nice...wailing away at a 25 year old who is just growing emotionally and in the public eye too...while you sit on your ass chastising him for the very thing you shout about...he has a right to speak show his emotions opinions and words
lording over everyone with your nonsensical redundant and racist opinions...well im not sure what it does for you...but it obviously feels like an achievement when you look into your mirror at yourself...since you need me to quietly read your thoughts...I hope you're man enough to do me the same favour or courtesy, at the very least ...
or has the Canadian government done something wrong again ... last time i checked its still considered one of the best countries in the world to live in...had you not considered moving ...i hear Switzerland is neutral ...they might even tolerate you ...but what do i know you're the one full of opinions and answers and brains ...i could never come close to your stature ...sadly I'm just not capable ...but such is the humble life I must live and in happiness too ...ah it's such a big chore eh...being a grown up and not being able to do squat over it...

Sadly the very people who can solve world poverty( or lack of happiness) and end wars are also the very people who create it through their own greed and lack of compassion for their less capable fellow human beings. They have been gifted with the ability to make decisions fix problems and lead others but use it selfishly only for their own benefit. Most animals do a better job than humans.
Do not criticise a very gifted 25yr old for becoming aware of those less fortunate than himself, it makes you sound like complete morons.
    Well done George.

He's 25. He's talented. He's aware of "those less fortunate" than he.

He's also virtue-signaling like The Dame which is a new wrinkle to his character which I find disturbing. As he is surrounded by the mystical aura given of by Lulu and Tonto, I suppose he has had to mimic what he is bombarded with and join them on their Magical Mystery Tour.

BTW - we're ALL less fortunate than Boi George. His condescending drivel deserves the parody it receives.

Nice that is George is aware of the world’s ills. Most people recognize these problems. The real problem is doing something about a multi layer problem. Yes, he is 25, the youth are always hoping for a better world,, however, fixing these problems are far more complicated than just hoping and talking about it. My only criticism of George and his teammate, the great one, they act like they are the only ones who care or are aware.

i send two thumbs up to you..
the school yard bullies seem to think berating and beating down everyone else and they taking control of the world is a good thing...
something tells me they just not clear on what good thing means...and if they want to defend they own freedom of opinion...it only works if they defend others freedom of opinions too...i might be too unreasonable...though...right? thats best left to others who are better at it than me...

George is getting desperate he has worked out that MB won’t be giving him a car to win the Drivers Championship. He and Lou Lou will be at least singing from the same hymn book.
