Mercedes-Benz Head of Motorsport, Toto Wolff, has full faith in Nico Rosberg recovering from a morale and confidence damaging mistake in the Italian Grand Prix.
While leading, Rosberg made a basic error when defending his lead from Lewis Hamilton, who then went on to win the race.
Hamilton believes that Rosberg doesn’t cope well when under pressure, and intends to keep piling it on.
However, Wolff thinks that the championship leader has the mental strength to deal with the mistake and put it behind him, with six races to go.
“Mentally he is very strong”, Wolff told the Mercedes website. “If you want to be world champion you have to go through the highs and lows. Lewis has had many of them and came back- Nico had the same at Silverstone and also came back. So he has the mental strength to recover.”
However, Wolff’s words are not enough to convince. The manner of Rosberg’s mistake and his unsure demeanour has given a broad hint that Hamilton now has a mental advantage. The Englishman is 22 points behind Rosberg, but the prospect of double points in the last race nullifies such a big gap.

But Wolff doesn't see the events at Monza as being any different to others this year.
“Before the incident at Spa they were going back and forth, when one had a good week and the other one not, but neither of them ever really had a low afterwards.”
Wolff also praised Hamilton for his mental strength following his spells of bad luck.
“I've been impressed with Lewis- he’s had some dreadful weekends but he has always come back with a smile at the next race. He is always in good spirits, and I think that is something that is impressive in general.”
A couple of good races for Mercedes would see them wrap up the Constructors Championship, something that has seemed inevitable all season.
