Marcus Ericsson says the news that Caterham entered administration took him, and the team, by surprise.
Caterham is in disarray and is not expected to race again in Formula 1 and they are not competing at this weekend’s US Grand Prix.
Ericsson should be racing for the team this weekend, but is instead working for Swedish television.
He said: “It’s been a difficult week really, we didn’t see this coming. We were preparing as normal for the weekend.”

Ericsson has been improving as the season has gone on, but he still hasn’t been too impressive despite the difficult circumstances.
“We had a really difficult year from the start and were struggling quite a lot. Especially for me, it’s been a difficult year but then in the last three races we managed to turn that form and get the car more to my liking.”
This weekend’s US Grand Prix will see just 18 cars compete, the fewest in nine years.
