Lewis Hamilton has said that he is feeling relaxed and confident ahead of Sunday’s championship showdown.
Hamilton is on the brink of winning his second world championship and will only has to come first or second in his dominant Mercedes at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Englishman leads his team-mate, Nico Rosberg, by 17 points at the top of the Drivers' Championship.
Hamilton’s cool and calm demeanour has been one of his trademarks in what has been a fantastic season, regardless of the result.
He told reporters: “I’m hoping bad luck won’t play a part this time around and I know that the team has been working flat out to make sure it doesn’t. I’m feeling relaxed, I’m feeling confident and I’m ready to win.”
Lewis Hamilton F1 Champion 2008
Hamilton has been involved in three other final day showdowns.
In 2007 he entered the final race in the championship lead but a mechanical problem gave the title to Kimi Raikkonen. However, he got his title in 2008 when he battled through the rain to deny Felipe Massa on the last lap.
In 2010, he was a distant challenger as Sebastian Vettel won the first of his four crowns.
He said: “Sure, I’m older and maybe a little bit wiser than I was back then. I’ve learnt a lot in these years since 2008- but I’m still the same driver. I still have the same hunger, the same will to win and I’ve been giving it everything I’ve got from the word go.”
