Andre Lotterer has confirmed that he has turned down an offer to race for Caterham at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Lotterer raced for Caterham in Belgium but has rejected the chance to race for them again.

Lotterer told AUTOSPORT: “I’m flattered because you don’t get the call to do F1 every day. The one-off at Spa was a great thing for me to do, but to do more would have to have been in a better situation- I don’t want to be a guy driving at the back.

“If I could see opportunities in F1 to gain a better seat, it might be different, but it doesn’t look like that.”

The team have confirmed that they are going to race in the season-ending event after missing the previous two.

Caterham entered administration last month and the teams future looked bleak. A bold crowdfunding scheme has helped them to race this weekend but they must find a second driver after Marcus Ericsson cancelled his contract.

Lotterer also turned down the chance to drive for the team in Italy.

Englishman Max Chilton is the favourite to secure the seat.
