Ferrari has confirmed the signing of Sebastian Vettel on a three-year contract from next year.
Vettel will replace Fernando Alonso, whose exit from the team was confirmed earlier today.
Vettel will partner Kimi Raikkonen next year after joining from Red Bull. It was announced last month that Vettel was leaving the reigning champions and Ferrari was his only likely destination.
Vettel said: “The next stage of my Formula 1 career will be spent with Scuderia Ferrari and for me that means the dream of a lifetime has come true.
“When I was a kid, Michael Schumacher in the red car was my greatest idol and now it’s an incredible honour to finally get the chance to drive a Ferrari.”
The team said: “In Formula 1 terms, Sebastian Vettel is a unique combination of youthfulness and experience and he brings with him that sense of team spirit which will prove valuable when, together with Kimi, they tackle the challenges awaiting us, as we aim to be front runners again as soon as possible.”
Vettel has already won four world championships and is hoping to be the second German to revive the fallen car giant.
