Ferrari has sacked team principle Marco Mattiacci, just seven months after he joined the team.

Mattiacci has been replaced by Maurizio Arrivabene, who has been with the team’s sponsor, Phillip Morris, for 27 years.

Ferrari said: “Throughout his time with Phillip Morris, Maurizio Arrivabene has been closely involved in the partnership with Ferrari, both in Maranello and the world’s racing circuits.

“He has also represented all Formula 1 sponsors on the F1 commission since 2010.”

Ferrari has had another dismal season and failed to win a race for the first time since 1993.

Mattiacci, who succeeded Stefano Domenicali in April, admitted it had been a “difficult season” but he was hopeful of a better 2015.
