McLaren’s treatment of Jenson Button over his future has been labelled as “disgusting” by former racer Derek Warwick.

The team have once again delayed making an announcement on who will partner incoming Spaniard Fernando Alonso for next year.

It has been clear that Alonso is arriving for some time, and the team has come in for heavy criticism for not confirming either Button or his younger team-mate Kevin Magnussen before the end of the season, with Button expected to retire of he doesn't get the seat.

Warwick, who is the chairman of the British Racing Drivers club said, “Button deserves to stay there” and that Alonso and Button would be “a great combination”.

He went on to say to BBC Radio Five Live: “They’ve got a young driver that they’ve invested heavily in with Kevin Magnussen. He’s obviously someone for the future so I think it’s a difficult situation for them.

“But in terms of Silverstone and British Racing Drivers’ Club, our fingers are crossed for Jenson because he brings a lot to the British Grand Prix and that’s important for us.”

Button and Magnussen have known that one of them will leave for much of the season, with rumours stretching back as far as July.

McLaren are now not expected to announce their decision until next week at the earliest.
