Red Bull boss Christian Horner has said that he believes his team are still a major player in Formula 1 and will come back stronger in 2015.

Red Bull were the nearest challengers to run away winners Mercedes, who scored almost 300 points more than their rivals as they won 16 of the 19 races in 2014.

Red Bull’s dominance, which saw them win four successive drivers and constructors championships between 2010 and 2013, is now said to be over with key personnel such as driver Sebastian Vettel, design chief Adrian Newey and aerodynamics expert Peter Prodromou leaving the team.

However, Horner still believes that they have a strong outfit: “Adrian’s still very much involved. He’s still very much involved in the design of next year’s car and he’s going to be around for sure.

“But we’ve got a great line-up. We’ve got strength in depth in the team and some real talent. A lot of teams have been chasing after that talent but we’ve managed to hold on to it”, he told Sky F1.

Horner also believes that the team will bridge the gap to Mercedes in 2015 but it depends heavily on engine suppliers Renault.

He said: “The prospects are looking good. Renault are obviously working incredibly hard in the window of opportunity that we’ve got and I think we can close that gap.

Red Bull will debut a new driver partnership in 2015, with Daniil Kvyat joining Daniel Ricciardo.
