McLaren and Sauber have announced that their 2015 chassis has successfully passed mandatory FIA crash tests.

Both teams suffered disappointing 2014 seasons and hope that they can start to climb the field next year.

McLaren have made a lot of changes to their chassis and aerodynamics, as new chief engineer Peter Prodromou gets to work with his new team after joining from Red Bull.

Team boss Ron Dennis believes positive steps have been taken: “On the car side, we have just gone through all our crash tests, we are well ahead of on programme and the critical test in Abu Dhabi absolutely gave us the true north in terms of where we want to go aerodynamically”, he told to official team website.

Dennis also believes that a “key ingredient” to the all-new McLaren is “possibly the best driver line-up that’s ever existed in Formula 1”, after they confirmed Fernando Alonso would partner Jenson Button next year.

Meanwhile, Sauber’s announcement that they have done the same has eased fears they might not make the grid next year after they made no secret of money worries.
